Metro 2033: Walkthrough → Hunter (8 Days Before)
The metro is our home. It's all we have left. Sure, life here isn't a bed of roses, but you always know that at your station, everyone is like family, and you have something to live for. But ever since these mutants appeared, everything has changed. We've become different. Fear rules us. Until he came, Hunter. He changed everything—especially my life.
We're woken up in our room and told that Hunter, our stepfather's friend, is due at the station any minute. He always has the latest news from the other stations, and it will be interesting to hear what he has to say.
We get up and follow Sukhoi through the living quarters of our station. Fear is evident in the people's eyes. As we pass through the hospital, we see that the wards are overcrowded. During the night, the patrol was attacked again by new monsters, known locally as the Blacks.
We continue on to the hangar with the gates and meet Hunter there. We sit with him for a while by the fire and discuss the situation. Soon we hear an alarm, and they tell us that someone has entered the ventilation system. They are mutants.
We grab the pistol from the drawer and get ready. In a few seconds, the creatures will pour out of the ventilation. Don't hesitate and help fight them off. Once we've killed them all, we'll catch our breath and continue our conversation. Sukhoi will inform us that the Blacks aren't just mutants. They're the next stage of evolution, "Homo Novus." Survival of the fittest, and that doesn't apply to humans.
A second later, a man will run in and report that the Blacks have attacked the outer checkpoint. We run there, but it's too late; everyone is dead. These creatures really are very dangerous. After discussing what we saw, Hunter leaves to scout, giving us the task: if he doesn't return, get to Polis station and find a man named Melnik there.
We need to tell him about the current situation. To make him trust us, Hunter gives us a medallion. We'll show it to Melnik when we get there. Now, VDNKh.
