Old World Blues quests (part 2)

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Old World Blues quests (part 2)

X-8 Data Retrieval

After completing the quest "A Brain's Best Friend," head to the marker on the map—it will lead you to the X-13 Research Facility. Enter and disable the force field on the right.

Go through the unlocked doorway and take the key from the suitcase near the table. Exit the building.

Head to the X-8 Research Center. Using the key you received, you can now open the door.

After entering and defeating the monsters, activate the Kennel Terminal. This will give you an unusual specimen.

From all the lines on the screen, select "Complete all other objectives for this mission," then return to the X-8 Test Terminal. Activate the terminal and run the Basic Retrieval Test.

Go through the large door to the Testing Area and, using the map markers as your guide, collect three student notes (yes, you essentially have to do the same thing twice).

Once the recordings are collected, return to the Central Facility. Use the terminal to launch the Advanced Search Test and return to the Testing Area.

Collect three student records again. Return to the Central Facility. The ordeal will be over, and you can use the terminal to retrieve your test results. The task is complete.

X-13: Attack of the Infiltrator!

Head to the X-13 Research Facility. Inside the building, head to the mission marker and you'll reach Lab 1.

Take the glove prototype from the table and return to the hall. Visit Lab 2 and find the boot prototype there. You can also get another upgrade for the sonic emitter from the terminal nearby.

Head to Lab 3 and find the chest armor prototype. This will complete the Experimental Stealth Suit.

Achievement / Reward: “Cardiac Arrest!” – Complete the Experimental Stealth Suit.

Put on your newly acquired suit and go through the passage to the left of the entrance to the Research Area.

Activate the security panel to access the elevator and use it to reach the Testing Lab.

Use the terminal and run the Basic Infiltration Test. Once you pass through the door on the left, the test will begin.

Your goal is to complete the designated route while remaining undetected by patrol bots. Once successful, you'll be able to enter the luxurious office and retrieve the document from the wall safe. This completes the mission.

Project X-13

Head to the X-13 Research Facility and approach the testing terminal again. Activate it and select Advanced Infiltration Test. You'll again need to retrieve documents from the wall safe, but this time you'll encounter laser beams that you mustn't touch.

However, once you complete the mission, you'll need to repeat the entire procedure again. Activate the Expert Infiltration test via the test terminal and head to the Testing Area again. This time, you'll encounter mines along the way.

After completing the task and returning to the terminal, you'll need to run the next test—the Robot Compliance Test. This time, you'll need to sneak up on enemies and disable them.

By successfully passing the final test, you will complete the task.

Influencing People

You'll have to complete this mission in three different locations, which will be marked on the map. However, only one will be accessible for fast travel: the X-13 Research Facility. It's worth starting with that.

We enter the building and, following the task marker, proceed to the Testing Lab and then to the Bathroom Observation Area.

Activate the local terminal and select all three options. Return to the hall we entered through earlier and enter the first door on the right.

We use the local terminal and again select both options. We leave the Testing Facility and exit the building.

Head north to the nearest marker—it's the Big MT North Tunnel. Go through the gate and then through the door marked "Authorized Personnel Only."

Proceed through the rooms until you find a room with a metal shelf in the corner. Pick up the upgrade component lying near the duffel bag and return outside the same way you came.

Continue northwest. You'll soon discover a new location: the Signal Hills Transmitter. To find it, you'll have to leave the canyon. Look for the signal towers.

Enter the building and near the nearest typewriter you will find another upgrade component.

Climb up the hill until you can jump onto the building's roof. There, you'll find another upgrade component, a LAER rifle, and other useful supplies.

Use the map to travel to the X-13 Research Facility and enter. Proceed to the Testing Lab, and from there to the Reception Observation Area.

Activate the terminal and select the available commands. Turn away from the monitor and exit the room through the left door.

Repeat the procedure with the local terminal—activate and select all available options. You can now exit the X-13 Research Facility. Following the marker on the map, head east until you find the Z-9 Crotalus DNA Preservation Lab.

Enter the building and follow the tunnel. You'll find another upgrade component on the table in the room.

Leave the lab and head further northeast until you find the Z-14 Pepsinae DNA Splicing Lab.

Go inside and down the stairs. After passing through the tunnel and the large door, you'll see an operating table with another upgrade component on it.

Leave the lab and head east again until you find the X-12 Research Center. Enter, use the sonic emitter to disable the force field, descend, and defeat Master Trauma.

Collect the upgrade component from the table in the center of the lower floor. Proceed further.

Your next destination is the Saturnite Alloy Research Facility, located to the southwest. Enter, locate and defeat Mr. Crazed Mister, and collect another upgrade component from the nearby crate.

Head northwest from the lab to the next location, Little Yangtze. Climb the stairs and you'll reach the observation tower. Near the coffee maker lies another upgrade component.

Continue northwest to the Construction Site. Be careful—there are many strong enemies there, so arm yourself accordingly. The second bulldozer on the left contains another upgrade component.

Your next destination is the Securitron De-Construction Plant in the east. After you destroy the local Securitrons, you'll find another upgrade component in their remains.

Use the map to fast travel to the Sink Balcony. Go inside and install the collected upgrade components on the local inhabitants. The mission is complete.

Field Research

Before you begin this quest, you should start the final quest, “Old World Blues,” to obtain the key to the Forbidden Dome Zone Entrance.

Almost all the items needed to complete this quest can be found in previously visited locations, making the mission much faster and easier.

Two audio samples can be found in Higgs Village in houses marked with quest markers, and one on a table in Dr. Mobius' lab inside the X-42 Robo-Ware Facility.

The Seed Sample can be obtained by defeating Spore Plants on the second floor of the Botanical Garden.

Next, you'll head to unexplored areas. Use your map to navigate to the Signal Hills Transmitter and cross the ravine via the overturned tower. Destroying the plants there will also yield another seed sample.

Head north past the fountain and along the pipe over the chasm (beware of the mine). Destroy the remaining plants and collect the missing samples. Return to the Sink.

In the Sink, install the collected audio samples into the music player and place the seed samples in the Biological Research Station. The task is complete – you can proceed to the final stage.

Old World Blues

Head to Dr. Klein in the Think Tank and inform him that you've completed all the objectives. After discussing all possible options, you'll gain access to the Forbidden Zone Dome Entrance.

Head there and visit the X-42 Robo-Ware Facility. Here you'll encounter one of the DLC's most challenging enemies: the Giant Scorpion.

After winning, head to the objective marker. Climb up one of the metal stairs and enter the building on the right. Go through, exit on the opposite side, and immediately enter the next door on the left. Go up the ramp and talk to Dr. Mobius. Choose the most polite options during the conversation—this will reveal the most details. If you have sufficient repair skill, you might even be able to fix the doctor's broken monitor.

After the conversation, go to the second floor and approach the container containing the brain. Interact with it. Keep in mind that communicating effectively with your own brain requires a certain level of communication, scientific, and medical skills. If you don't meet the required standards, try to compromise and strike a deal. However, the brain will refuse. Promise to be more careful with yourself—that way, you'll learn what's needed for the brain surgery. Take the brain with you (or leave it where it is and return later).

Achievement / Award: “Make Up Your Mind” – Make a decision about what to do with your brain.

Talk to Dr. Mobius and agree on what to do next. You'll have a choice: kill him or let him live.

Exit the building and return to the Think Tank, where you'll need to speak with Dr. Klein. If you've completed all other missions by this point and have sufficient skill, you can resolve the matter peacefully.

If you decide to fight, tell Klein about the pacification field. Victory and exiting the Think Tank will complete this quest.

Achievement / Reward: "Outsmarted" – Complete the "Old World Blues" quest.

After the ending cutscene, you'll receive the "Transportaponder" reward, which will transport you between Mojave and Big Mountain at any time.
