Jefferson Memorial
We can safely travel to River City without waiting for our father—by the time we arrive, he'll already be chilling in Dr. Li's lab. We speak with him again and learn that he's seriously planning to resume work and move to the Jefferson Memorial with a team of scientists.
We run outside and head for the memorial, killing any creatures along the way (if there are any left). Upon arrival, we wait for our father and his team. Once everyone is assembled, we speak with our father again, who will tell us to clear out the interior of the Memorial as well. Since we've already been there, there's a chance the entire threat is dead, so we check to see if the dialogue option about everything being alright is available. If so, we click it and head inside with everyone else. If not, we enter the building and clear out the rooms, killing anything that moves. Afterwards, we report to our father.
The expedition will enter the building and set up camp in the rotunda. We speak with Dad again and ask what we should do. He sends us to the pumping station, where we need to turn on the pumps to pump out the water. We do so. We need to go down to the very bottom level of the Memorial. First, we go to the basement, turn right, and go down another flight of stairs. We find the switch and activate it. Great, let's go back. We speak with Dad again and receive the fuses we need to install to use the supercomputer. Using the map as our guide, we go down to the bottom level of the Memorial again and install them. We activate the panel and go up to the first level of the basement, where an open room awaits us, housing the supercomputer (this door was previously closed). We activate it and, using the intercom, inform Dad of the results.
He gives us our next task: clear the blockage in the pumping station. We head to the first corridor from the Memorial entrance, turn right, and follow it to the end. We spot a grate emitting steam and head towards it—this is the entrance to the pumping station. We descend and find ourselves in a pipe. We follow it to the rupture, find a valve, and activate it. We watch the scene: armed Enclave fighters arrive by helicopter. We need to return immediately. Another section of the pipeline, previously closed, will open up before us. We enter it and move forward; it will lead us straight to the basement. Now we need to return to my father in the control room.
Through the tunnel to the Citadel
By this time, Enclave fighters have already invaded the Memorial, so we'll have to fight our way back with lead and steel. Having overcome the resistance and reached my father's room, we'll witness the tragic scene of his death. His death gives us an opportunity to escape to the Brotherhood of Steel Citadel. Lee leads us to a secret tunnel swarming with feral ghouls; we'll have to fight our way out.
There's no need to worry about the lives of the other scientists; Dr. Lee herself is a quest character and therefore immortal. Everyone else is cannon fodder.
We move along the tunnel and, eventually, reach a locked door. Doctor Li opens it, and we proceed further. In the next tunnel, we are attacked by ghouls. Near the next door, Garza, one of the scientists (if he is still alive), will have a heart attack. The doctor will say that he needs help, and we will have a choice:
- give 5 stimulants and help him (we will receive positive karma);
- use buffout and kill the scientist (guess what will happen to karma);
- go further without company, and then return (Garza will die by then, karma will not change);
- use eloquence and persuade Lee to abandon Garza.
After this small pause, we move along the only corridor and reach the next door. An ambush awaits us behind it, so if we want to leave our scientists alive, it is better to abandon them for now. We enter the room and destroy the Enclave soldiers on the upper tier of the room. We climb the stairs and kill the feral ghouls, then continue on to the tunnel. A large, but locked door awaits us. Activate the panel on the right, and the doors will open. Our final destination is the stairs leading to freedom. Once we reach them, we emerge onto the surface and find ourselves near the Brotherhood of Steel Citadel .
