Metro 2033 (Redux version)

Metro 2033: Walkthrough  → Metro 2033 (Redux version)

The game's storyline consists of seven chapters, in which the protagonist will encounter old friends and dangerous new enemies. He'll visit familiar locations and find himself in new places. According to the Metro 2033: Redux playthrough, you should begin with the prologue.

Prologue

Artyom and Melnik begin their ascent to the surface. Near the Ostankino Tower, they are joined by three more Sparta soldiers, and they continue their journey. Meanwhile, they are attacked by strange rat-like creatures, and when the attack seems repelled, Artyom is knocked down by a flying mutant. The screen fades to black.

VDNKh

The hero finds himself at the VDNKh station eight days before the attack on the tower. There, he meets Hunter, who helps repel the mutant attack. From his new acquaintance, Artem learns that the metro is facing another threat: the Dark Ones, who can penetrate a person's mind. Hunter leaves to learn more about them and asks the hero to go to Polis for help.

Chapter 1. On the Road

The first part of Metro 2033 begins with Artyom deciding to leave VDNKh after Hunter hasn't returned. He's recruited as a guard for a caravan heading to Rizhskaya Station and receives the necessary equipment.

Chase

The hero travels by cart toward Rizhskaya, but along the way, something strange begins to happen to the squad members. Artyom encounters anomalies and is attacked by ghouls. While fighting them off, he must reach the station, which is nearby. When the hero arrives at the Rizhskaya checkpoint, the guards destroy the mutants with a flamethrower.

Chapter 2. Bourbon

The next chapter of Metro 2033 begins with Artyom having a drink at a bar. Then he meets Bourbon, who offers to accompany him through the tunnels to Sukharevskaya station. In exchange, the bandit offers his Kalashnikov. Together, they fight their way through the catacombs and emerge onto the surface to reach their destination. In the dead city, you can search corpses to find useful items.

Chapter 3. Khan

Bourbon is caught by bandits on Sukharevskaya Street. In a skirmish, he and the gang leader kill each other, and Artem is saved by a new acquaintance, Khan.

Next, you must follow him through a dark tunnel. Along the way, the hero encounters an anomaly and fights mutants.

Turgenevskaya

The travelers then reach the infamous Turgenevskaya station. Here, Khan tells Artyom that the passageways need to be blown up. Artyom plants a bomb in the final tunnel and leaves the station through a hatch.

Kuznetsky Bridge

Artyom enters the station through a ventilation shaft. He then sees a slightly open door in one of the branches, but behind it are Nazis. Various strangers help him escape.

Additional information:  Kuznetsky Most is a craftsman's station, so you can purchase new armor, weapons, and ammunition here before continuing your journey.

Chapter 4. War

A full-blown war has broken out between the Reds and the Nazis. There are two ways to cross the front line: stealthily or by force. Either way, Artyom ends up captured by the Nazis.

Battle of the Handcars

The hero is saved from execution by members of the Sparta squad. Together, they attempt to escape pursuit on a handcar. Artyom acts as a gunner. When the path is blocked by a gate, they must pass through the station and transfer to the next handcar.

Important!  To destroy the tank, you must shoot at the bridge supports.

Depot

Next, you need to reach the depot. However, Artem's partner is dragged into the catacombs by mutants. At the end of the journey, you need to dismount the handcar and get to Paveletskaya via the pipes.

Paveletskaya

Here, he must help a local squad deal with a monster attack. But the odds are stacked against him, and the captain asks Artyom to transmit a tape to Polis calling for help. Along the way, the hero encounters a boy who survived the massacre and returns him to his parents. Now he must return to the surface.

Outpost

On the surface, the Nazis are already waiting for the hero. Artyom needs to get past them to the building's roof and insert the tape into the tape recorder. Now he can exit the building through the back and descend into the subway.

Important!  It's best not to engage the fascists in combat, so the demons can focus solely on you.

Black Station

Here, meeting Ulman, Artyom learns that the station is completely occupied by the Nazis. Together, they reach the trolley and head off towards Polis.

Additional information:  During the vision, the hero has two options: run away from the monster or go towards it. The ending depends on this choice.

Chapter 5. Hope

The Polis Council refuses to help. But Melnik has a plan: to destroy the Blacks, they must find the secret bunker D-6. Artyom goes to the surface, where he meets Melnik and Danila.

Library

A serious battle with the creatures living there looms in the Library. During the battle, Danila is wounded by a demon, and Melnik returns with him to Polis. The hero proceeds alone.

Book Depository

On his way to the book depository, Artyom must defeat several librarians. In the basement, he encounters more creatures and kills them. He must find the necessary documents in the archives and retrieve them. Now he needs to give them all to Melnik and prepare to search for the bunker.

Chapter 6. D-6

On the way to the bunker, the squad battles various mutants and loses several soldiers. Finally, Artyom finds a train that will take them to D-6.

D-6

Here, the power needs to be restored. To do this, Artyom climbs the stairs and, at Melnik's command, turns on the generator. After that, you can go down and use the minecart to break through the door to the computer room. Then, you need to take the elevator back down.

Biomass

The reactor control panel is guarded by sentient biomass, so it will have to be started manually. Using a crane, three rods must be removed, the laser guidance system must be retrieved, and a train must be taken to the Ostankino TV Tower.

Chapter 7: The Tower

This is the final part of the Metro 2033: Return walkthrough.

The hero returns to the point where the prologue ended. He must fight monsters in the square in front of the tower, then run inside and take the elevator up. When it breaks down, a monster attacks and wounds Melnik. Artyom continues alone. At the very top, he must plant a laser targeting device.

The hero begins to hallucinate in which he sees Black trying to turn off the system, but unable to do so, and dies.

Metro 2033 – Walkthrough with the Best Ending

The game has two possible endings. In the standard version, the installation launches missiles that destroy the Dark Ones' lair. However, there is also an alternative (good) ending. In it, Artyom learns the secret of the mysterious creatures—it turns out they wanted to help humanity. The installation malfunctions, and the Dark Ones no longer pose a threat to humanity.

To get the good ending, Artyom must distribute ammunition to beggars, listen to all conversations at stations, help everyone who asks, and commit murders only when absolutely necessary.

If everything is done correctly, then in the chapter "Tower" on the level "Delirium" the hero will hear the following words from the Black: "He is here and can hear us... understand us...".

Obtaining story achievements

The game features story-based achievements that players earn as they progress. To earn them, the following conditions must be met:

  • Demolitionist - blow up the tunnel and the hermetic seal at Turgenevskaya.
  • Enemies must be exterminated - complete the game with a bad ending.
  • Survivalist 2033 – Complete the game in Survivalist mode.
  • Spartan 2033 – Complete the Spartan mode.

There are about 50 more additional achievements, but you will need to play the game several times to get them.

Metro 2033: Return turned out to be a very interesting game. It attracted not only fans of the Metro 2033 universe but also shooter enthusiasts.
