Stalker: Call of Pripyat  → Beginning

So, we begin the game as SBU Major Alexander Degtyarev. We're holding an AK-47, an award-winning PM proudly protrudes from our holster, and our backpack contains a few medical supplies, food, and ammunition. Not much for a State Security agent. No automatic rifles with intelligent targeting systems, no life-sustaining vests, and no laser-guided watches. But command explained this by saying we shouldn't attract stalkers. Well, if we shouldn't, then we won't.

We put a paper bag over our heads so no one sees our military mug, so hated by any stalker, and set off to secretly ask everyone about the downed army helicopters. We immediately receive a ton of quests. We need to investigate the crash sites of five helicopters.

The yellow arrow on the compass shows the direction we need to go. To get a more detailed view of the road ahead, open the map (default key: "p"). So, using the compass as our guide, we begin our journey. In just a minute, we'll encounter a stalker. Why not talk to him? Ask him where the nearest stalker camp is.

Having received a mark in the PDA, we're in no hurry to leave. After chatting with the person a bit more, we learn that one of the helicopters crashed on a plateau in the southern part of Zaton. But according to the stalker, it's impossible to get there, although a certain Noah knows the way. Having received a new quest, we go to Noah. While we're at it, we can stop by the stalker camp "Skadovsk."

Along the way, we'll encounter some of the local wildlife—dogs. They must have smelled the sausage in our backpack and, their tail stumps wagging merrily, rushed toward us. We immediately open fire on these impudent creatures, as the sausage they've taken won't be enough; the dogs will definitely bite off a leg or an arm as well. The Kalashnikov has quite a kick, so it's best to fire in short bursts, aiming for the dogs' heads. Have we taught those ill-mannered Shariks a lesson? Great, let's move on.

In principle, visiting Skadovsk is optional, as we won't find anything interesting there for the main quests right now. But if you need to earn some money, repair your gear, or just have a glass or two of vodka, we'll stop briefly at the camp before heading to Noah.

The "ark's" owner greets us less than cordially, immediately opening fire with a shotgun. Thankfully, he's not known for his marksmanship, so we enter the barge with confidence, having hidden our weapons. Don't shoot the dog! Noah will be very offended if his pet is killed. We head for the Skat-5 helicopter .
