Portal 2 Walkthrough → Chapter 4: Surprise
GladOS's promised surprise turned out to be just that. Having received nothing, we head to the next test. We create a portal at the far end, to the right of the turret, and reach the console. Activating it causes the cubes to collide and end up in the water. Therefore, we create one portal in the direction of the bridge, and a second a little further on the floor, where the cube emerges from. This will prevent the cubes from colliding, and we can use them. We use them to direct the laser first at the turret, then at the light bulbs.
We create a bridge and head for the exit. After talking with Wheatley, we find ourselves in another test chamber. We look around and notice that the test is completed in stages. The first guide cube lies below. We grab it and reach the laser's direction. Using the cube, we direct the laser at the light bulb. We look for the next cube; you can only reach them using momentum. Right in the center is an air panel. How do you use it correctly?
First, you need to act quickly, and second, you need to be very careful and precise. Let's say we create a blue portal above the panel and an orange one on the wall next to it. We enter the orange portal and need to fire the blue portal at the floor in literally a second. This will lock us between the panel and the ceiling, as the portal above the panel will disappear.
Now, with precise movements, we create the portals and fly to the desired position using inertia. We use the same technique to throw the cubes to the desired elevation, but in this case, we need to act very quickly. Before heading to the exit, don't forget to destroy the turrets with the laser. In the next test, we'll start by creating a portal in the column in the center opposite the openings.
Create another portal on the wall (at the corner), aiming one of the lasers. The beam will hit the hole, and directing the others won't be difficult. Next, GladOS's final test, and before it's over, Wheatley will arrive to help. Begin the escape, ignoring Glados's persuasion.
