Megaton (quests) | Fallout 3

Megaton (quests)

Meet Sheriff Lucas Simms at the entrance. Talk to him and accept the quest to defuse the atomic bomb (karma +, 100/500 caps). Go right to Moira's shop. Sell her all the trophies, buy ammo, stims, and Mentats, and accept the quest to write the "Wasteland Survival Handbook." Take the Vault 101 armor suit and immediately put it on!

After that, go to Doc Church. Accept the quest to cure Leo Stash of his drug addiction and head straight to the Tin Duck (inside, behind the counter, during the day) or the water treatment plant (at night). Wait for Leo, skipping 1 hour. Convince him to quit drugs (ELOQUENCE ≥50; free Mentats and other medications).

Moriarty's Bar

Talk to Mr. Burke. Accept the mission to detonate the bomb and the atomic detonator. Talk to everyone in the saloon. Buy information about my father from Moriarty for 100 caps / persuade him by saying that my father talked about him. (ELOQUENCE ≥60; Continuation of the main quest). Accept the mission to extort the debt from Silver. Find the sheriff and turn in Burke. Go with the sheriff to Moriarty's saloon. During Simms's conversation with Burke, aim for Burke's head. After he shoots the sheriff, kill him (karma +, silent 10mm pistol, ammo, Simms's Chinese submachine gun, 5.56 ammo, sheriff's clothes, and Burke's clothes).

Go to the bomb. Raise your explosives skill to 25. Defuse the bomb. Go to the sheriff's house. Talk to the sheriff's son, Harden Simms. Take the +1 Strength figurine from the sheriff's room on the second floor. Obtain the deed to the house (immediately to the left and up from the entrance to Megaton). Go into the house. Distribute all the necessary items into the drawers. Run around Megaton (talk to residents, collect trophies).

A small hint for those who are fond of other people's goods. If someone has an interesting item on a shelf, but you can't steal it discreetly, use the following trick. Lift the item in a Z-shape and carefully carry it to a secluded corner where no one will see and you can safely "steal" it. All NPCs are completely indifferent to this "rearrangement."

Interestingly, you can also steal a Chinese assault rifle from the mercenary Jericho. This special weapon has reduced damage compared to the standard one (36 vs. 40); however, it is completely indestructible and, if given to an accompanying NPC, has an infinite supply of J ammo.

Springvale

Search all the houses for trophies. In the second house to the left of the Vault 101 exit, open the safe (easy): a Scoped Magnum .44 or a ray pistol may randomly appear. Talk to Silver. If it gets dark, return to Megaton, hand over the trophies and get some sleep. Go around Megaton on the left (from the Vault 101 side): almost exactly behind the entrance to the city, find a hollowed-out rock containing a sniper rifle and .44 ammunition, a note) - a small rounded rock, the cache is opened by pressing the "E" key. In one of the mailboxes in Springvale is the Illustrated Guide to Fist Fighting Unarmed +1.

Go along the destroyed road to Vault 101 (or VP); turn left, go up to the plateau; turn right along the destroyed overpass. Move through the barricades, shooting the raiders. There are about 8 of them, and you can randomly pick up a sniper rifle. The bridge over the Potomac is destroyed here.

Springvale Primary School

11 raiders, the strongest with a dog at the top. Drops include a variety of armor, .32 revolvers, combat knives, 10mm pistols, ammunition, drugs, etc. Valuable loot:

  • assault rifle (tunnel, near the rubble);
  • book: Training Manual for Special Units of the Chinese People's Army (tunnel, near the rubble);
  • the book "Duck and Cover!" (in the raider leader's room to the left of the computer);
  • Sheet music (first room to the right of the entrance on an overturned table – can be given to Agatha during the quest);
  • Quantum Cola (on top of the cage at the entrance to the school - can be shot down from there).

Raider locations: 1 in the music room, 3 in the hallway, 4 on the second floor, 3 in the far ruined part of the school. After collecting the loot, you can repair the Raider armor set with the Repair skill. Return to Moira in Megaton: accept quests to write the "Wasteland Survival Guide."

Damaged Pipes

When you ask Walter, "What can be done for the city?" he gives you this task, citing a lack of time to do it yourself. Required: Repair skill of at least 30! If you lack this skill, you can eat Mentats and equip the Vault 101 Tech Suit. Leak locations:

(a) on the roof of the Children of Atom's house. Easily jump over from the right corner of the fence around Moira's shop;

(b) to the right of the stairs leading into the hero's house from the entrance;

(c) on the hill opposite the entrance, where the Community Hall stands.

As a reward, Walter will offer to buy scrap metal from the hero. You can either sell him the scrap metal for 10 BK/piece, or refuse to take the BK and receive positive karma and +5 HP per piece for turning it in. If you have the Diligent Student skill and turn in a large amount of scrap metal at once (after resting first), you can earn a large amount of HP at once!
