Chapter 3: Concord | Fallout 4

Chapter 3: Concord

Items:

  • Nuka Cola Quantum

Enemies:

  • Hitch Bird x2
  • Raider x2

Search the first house once you reach Concord, which is one of the few that isn't boarded up:

- Nuka Cola Quantum: HP +400, AP +100, RAD (5), WGT (1), VAL (50)

- Jet, Med-X

- Red Bandana, Welding Goggles (PER +1)

- Baseball Bat: DAMAGE (22), SPEED (slow), WEIGHT (3), QUALITY (25)

Safe (advanced):

- .38 Ammo x31, Shotgun Ammo x6

- Glow-Sighted Pipe Pistol: DAMAGE (13), .38 Caliber, RATE OF FIRE (55), RANGE (119), HANDLING (60), WEIGHT (2.8), QUALITY (24)

- Pre-War Money x17

Continue towards the center of town, being wary of the two stationary raiders on the sidewalk under a "Celebrate History" banner near the museum. Explore the nearly destroyed corner building next to it (the one with the upper sector that turns into a ramp):

- Stimpak

- Pipe Pistol, .45 ammo x5, .38 ammo x47

Revolver Rifle: DAMAGE (24), .45 CALIBER, RATE OF FIRE (6), RANGE (203), HANDLING (73), WEIGHT (7.4), QUALITY (35)

Expert Safe:

- .308 ammo x3

- Caps x16

- Heavy Duty Armored Left Arm:

DEFENSE: {PHYS (14), ENG (14)}, WEIGHT (5.4), QUALITY (105)

- Reinforced Leather Right Leg:

DEFENSE: {PHYS (10), ENG (17)}, WEIGHT (6.4), QUALITY (27)

- Tactical Heavy Hunting Rifle:

DAMAGE (88), .308 CALIBER, RATE OF FIRE (3), RANGE (131), HANDLING (78), WEIGHT (10.1), QUALITY (100)

Check the bar across the street for some Jet, Mentats, and Caps (14). In the alley behind the building, there's an entrance (hatch door) to Concord Civic Access (sewers). I recommend waiting until you've geared up a bit before heading there, simply because of the Mirelurk wait inside, but if you're up for it, go for it.

Look for the church next to the museum. The first floor is empty. Go through the narrow doorway to the left of the preacher and up the stairs:

- Short Pipe Rifle, Molotov Cocktail

Safe (Expert):

- .308 Ammo x6, .38 Ammo x13, 10mm Ammo x14

- Pre-War Money x12

Head to the museum (the largest building) and loot the raiders outside. Be sure to get:

- Pipe Auto Pistol

DMG (10), .38 ammo, RAT (127), RNG (71), ACC (46), WGT (2.7), VAL (28)

- Short Laser Musket

DMG (30), Cell ammo, RAT (6), RNG (107), ACC (70), WGT (12.6), VAL (61)

- Short Double-Barrel Shotgun

DMG (45), Shell ammo, RAT (36), RNG (47), ACC (16), WGT (9), VAL (39)

Also, grab the fusion cells from the dead Raider next to the laser musket. He was also wearing an Ushanka Hat (INT +1) and a Patched Three-Piece Suit (PER +1, CHR +1). Equip a decent weapon and enter the Freedom Museum in response to the Minutemen's call.

Museum of Freedom

NPCs

  • Preston Garvey, last of the Minutemen, When Freedom Calls

Quests

- Pick up the Laser Musket

- Enter the Museum

- Rescue the captured settlers

- Obtain the Fusion Core

- Place the core in the Power Armor on the roof and pick up the mining "Jewel of the Commonwealth" (main quest, obtained when "When Freedom Calls" is just missing) "The First Step" (after completing "When Freedom Calls") "Sanctuary" (after completing "When Freedom Calls")

Items:

  • Quebec Vault Key, belonging to one of the raiders that attacked the museum

Enemies:

  • Raiders x7

Once you enter the museum, run right into the next room to avoid the raiders. Proceed through the rooms until you reach the main lobby. Deal with the raider with his back to you. Climb the stairs and defeat another raider near the middle walkway connecting the two halves of the lobby. Go through the northern door near the top of the stairs you just climbed and shoot the raider running down the hallway toward you. Search the next room with a large military mural:

 - 10mm Ammo x20, .308 Ammo x4, .38 Ammo x14, Molotov Cocktail x2

 - Short Pipe Bolt-Action Rifle

DMG (34), .308 Caliber, RAT (2), RNG (131), ACC (71), WGT (4.8), VAL (39)

 - Psycho

Go through the broken wall and up the stairs to reach three Raiders in the lobby on the balcony. The fourth is in the room on the other side of the vending machines. Search the room for loot:

- .45 Ammo x9, Caps (22)

Minutemen and Power Armor

Exit to the lobby, get the .45 ammo and Short Pipe Revolver Rifle from the duffel bag on the destroyed walkway above the lobby. Head northwest to the red, glowing "Exit" sign and encounter the Minutemen faction for the first time. He'll give you a clue about where to get a suit of power armor, as well as a fusion core to power it up! Before you do anything, examine the room:

- Game cartridge: "Atomic Command" next to the computer terminal

- Bobblehead on "Perception" on the table next to the flag.

Now you can head to the balcony and help Preston defeat the raiders outside, including "Gristle," the local raider leader. Inside, talk to Mama Murphy, use Charisma to gain 22 XP and hear a description of what awaits you in the future: "Terrifying claws, teeth, horns... the face of Death itself." Sounds good.

The fusion core is locked in the basement, and there are three options for accessing it:

1. Hack the museum terminal (novice), in the room with Preston Garvey.

2. Hack the security terminal (novice) in the hallway.

3. Hack the lock (novice) on the security doors.

On your way down to the basement, grab the following:

- .38 ammo x20, .308 ammo x7

- Short Pipe Bolt-Action Rifle

- Pipe Bolt-Action Pistol

DMG (34), .308 ammo, RAT (2), RNG (95), ACC (63), WGT (3.2), VAL (30)

A Deathclaw roaming the city

Retrieve the fusion core from the locked enclosure in the basement and return to the upper floor. Follow the quest marker to the roof. Take the holodisk log from the table and insert the core into the armored suit. After equipping the suit, grab the minigun from the helicopter and loot a few items on the roof. You can fight some raiders outside from the roof or drop down to them.

Warning: There's a Deathclaw roaming the city somewhere. You can even see it from the roof.

The best way to kill it is with the minigun, as Deathclaws are known to be powerful, based on experience from previous Fallout games  . You might be able to save ammo by jumping outside and attempting to jump on the Deathclaw. However, the safety of the roof is a major advantage. If you jump down, Dogmeat can be useful as an irritant.

If you've killed Deathclaw and all the raiders inside and outside the museum, and the "Freedom Calls" quest still doesn't progress, it's likely a game glitch (experience the first quest). If you're playing on PC, there's a fix that might work (it's always worked for me): Console Command: Press ~ (tilde) to open the console, then enter "SetStage MQ102 122." Speak with Preston Garvey on the first floor of the museum to complete the quest.

You'll receive 50 Fusion Batteries and 100 Caps, and will also begin the next quest: "Jewel of the Commonwealth," which takes you to Diamond City. However, first, Garvey and the others want to begin rebuilding the Sanctuary community. Regardless of your dialogue choices, they'll soon leave the museum, heading to Sanctuary. Speak with Preston after the group reaches their new settlement to complete the "Freedom Calls" quest.

You'll also have the opportunity to receive the quest "The First Step" if you agree to help another settlement, Tenpines Bluff. Once the Deathclaw is dead, you can remove your Power Armor, as the Fusion Core won't work for too long. I suggest storing the armor at the Red Rocket Gas Station so you know where to find it again. You can travel there, go inside, and remove the armor (hold E) near the MF Armor Station. The next time you visit, it will be on the armor rack, ready for use/maintenance.

House north of the flying saucer in the playground:

- Caps (22), Radaway, Food

Safe (novice) in the bedroom:

- .38 Rounds x11, Buckshot x12, Pipe Pistol

- Fancy Comb, Pre-War Cash x19

Third or fourth house northeast of the museum:

- Stimpak, Psycho x2

- Pipe Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle:

DMG (34), .308 ammo, RAT (2), RNG (215), ACC (98), WGT (6.2), VAL (54)

- Food, Lockpicks, Caps (15)

Safe (novice):

- 10mm Ammo x46, Glow-Sighted Hair Trigger 10mm Pistol, Pre-War Cash x22

Three raiders: Naf-naf, Nif-nif, and...

On the east side of town, you'll find a small junkyard inhabited by three Raiders. If you attack from a distance, be prepared for them to fire a Molotov cocktail at you. The best course of action is to sneak up the hill toward the Raiders and throw your own Molotovs right into the middle of the group; this will likely kill all three at once. If a nearby truck catches fire, STAY away from it, as the combustion will cause a massive explosion! Loot the Raiders, then loot the dead settlers and their car nearby for:

- 10mm Pistol, 10mm Ammo x5, .38 Ammo x4, Pipe Pistol

- Stimpak, Purified Water

- Caps x90

Next, look at the Concord Speakeasy (bar), a tall blue building slightly north of the museum, with three lit candles in front. Inside, you'll find a safe (advanced):

- Frag Mine, Molotov Cocktail

- Chemical Agent. Magazines, Fuse x2, Wonderglue

There are no enemies on the top floor, only some loot:

- Daytime Gonorrhea (drug) x2

- X-Cell x2 (+2 to all SPECIAL stats)

Behind a closed door (advanced):

- 10mm ammo x54, 10mm pistol

- Comfort Grip Calibrated 10mm Pistol:

DMG (18), 10mm ammo, RAT (46), RNG (83), ACC (66), WGT (3.8), VAL (63)

- Psycho, Rad-X, Deathclaw Hide

There are two main options for what to do next:

1. Follow Preston Garvey to Sanctuary to help build the settlement, or

2. Make your way to Diamond City!

Want to take it slow and enjoy some side quests? Go to Sanctuary. No? Go to Diamond City. The easiest routes are across two parallel bridges (south of Cambridge). To go west, you'll need to sneak past the extremely powerful raiders resting on the USS Riptide wreck below the bridge. To go east, swim a few meters to reach the undamaged southern section. These routes are good for finding Diamond City's main gate .
