Canterbury Municipality (Mechanist and Antagonist)
Location for the "Inhuman Gambit" quest. Upon arriving in town, the protagonist witnesses a skirmish between two self-proclaimed superheroes – the Antagonizer and the Mechanist. The townspeople are far from happy and dream of getting rid of both. After the dust settles, the protagonist can speak with Uncle Roy, who will give the quest: 200 (400) BK for completion.
Afterwards, they must speak with Derek Passion. If you have the "Childish" trait, you can ask him about the weaknesses of your opponents. The Mechanist will never harm innocents, and the ants guarding the Antagonizer are quite weak. Derek will also give the coordinates of both locations, which will appear on the Pip-Boy 3000 map. Joe Porter can reveal the Antagonizer's real name. Then, you can head to her lair north of Canterbury. There are two ways to get into it:
- through the main entrance (the right branch immediately upon entering the cave leads to a small cave with random trophies, covered by a mounted shotgun), fighting a few ants along the way;
- through the back entrance (the pipe west of the main entrance), which will allow you to bypass all the ants.
To solve this task optimally, i.e. peacefully persuade both characters to abandon their occupation, you must have a high level of the Speech skill, maximum charisma, know the Antagonizer's real name, and read the editor's note regarding the Antagonizer character in the Grognak the Barbarian comic / have the "Woman Killer" trait.
It is recommended to save before this extremely difficult conversation, as you will have to go through it more than once. If successful, the Antagonizer will give the hero his costume and peacefully leave the outskirts of Canterbury. To persuade the Mechanist, you need the "Black Widow" or "Childish" traits. Both offer a unique line about the townspeople fearing the Mechanist. In this case, he will also leave the town, leaving his armor behind. To receive the reward, you must speak to Uncle Roy/Joe Porter.
Trophies: "Grognak the Barbarian" (stolen from Derek), "Dean's Electronics," a bottlecap mine, and the unique crowbar "Freeway Kid Friend" (a paraphrase of the name of Fisherman's Friend menthol tablets) in Dominic and Machete's house. Trophies in the Antagonizer's Lair: "Invisible Man" and Quantum Cola.
