Great Khans (quests)

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Great Khans (quests)

Their people were exterminated near Bitter Springs. The remnants of their tribe were driven to places uninhabitable. Now they harbor a grudge against those who wronged them and bide their time to exact revenge and avenge the deaths of their brethren. Meet the Great Khans—another dark horse of Fallout: New Vegas.

After a rebuke from the NCR, the remnants have relocated to Red Rock Canyon. Tents, bare cliffs, the scorching desert sun, and the dangerous presence of cadavers and deathclaws—this is their new home. Before visiting for the first time, I recommend completing the quest "Skirmish in Boulder City" with a favorable outcome for the Khans—with a reputation as an insider, it will be easier to obtain quests for this group.

Honeymoon in Aba Daba (Dayen)

Jack and Diane are manufacturing drugs in the Red Rock chemistry lab. The lady offers several courier assignments. First, we'll head to Cottonwood Cove and take down the drug dealer Anders from the cross (there's no point in killing him—you won't gain any goodwill). The next assignment is also trivial: deliver a package to the Red Caravan. The choice only appears at the end of the quest, when we're asked to sell the drugs to the Fiends from Vault 3. At the entrance, we persuade the guard with eloquence (an alternative is to wear a Khan faction outfit) and head to the Motorcyclist. You can kill the leader or make a deal with him, or better yet, sell him all the drugs first and then kill him—there's no loss of reputation with the Khans, but you can then convince Diane that it's better to manufacture medicine than psychotropic drugs. For all stages of the mission, we'll earn caps, and at the end, a little experience and the melee move "Khan's Legacy."

IMPORTANT: I recommend combining this quest with Colonel Shu's unmarked mission, where he asks you to bring the leader's helmet as a reward. Don't kill the Motorcyclist unless you've accepted this mission.

Helping Hand (Jerry the Young One)

The boy doesn't like the traditions and rules of the Khans; he'd be better off reading a book or writing poetry. We run to the Mormon fort, to Julie Farkas, and ask if we can find the boy a job with the Followers of the Apocalypse. Regardless of the dialogue option we choose, the outcome is the same: we can only return to Jerry with the good news and gain EXPERIENCE.

Dad (Regis)

To accept the quest, ask Papa Khan of Red Rock Canyon to break the alliance with Caesar's Legion. After he refuses, leave the house, speak with Papa's advisor, and accept the quest. Regis asks you to find incriminating evidence against Ambassador Karl, convince the council members of the need to break the alliance, and provide Papa with evidence that the Legion is mistreating the annexed tribes. The quest is non-linear, so I'll describe the most convenient sequence of actions.

We wait for Papa, Regis, and Karl to sit down for dinner. We talk to Karl and pass three speech checks (25, 50, and 75). The ambassador spills the beans, and Papa Khan himself kills him. Alternatively, steal the diary from Karl's chest (at a karma loss) and show it to Papa.

We head to the Fort, to Caesar's tent. The "Legion Slave Record Book" is in the left compartment of the tent. We take it (it won't be considered theft) and bring it to Regis.

We talk to Diane or Jack, convincing them with eloquence. We tell Melissa that women don't serve in the Legion and that her fate awaits her as a slave or an officer's wife.

Once all three conditions are met, we go to an audience with the Pope. We convince him that the Khans don't need allies (Speech 75), and he promises to lead his people out of these parts after Caesar strikes the Hoover Dam.

Don't Make Me Ask (Melissa)

On the outskirts of the quarry, in the Great Khans' camp, a female scout waits for a messenger with a package, but he hasn't arrived. The mission consists entirely of conversations and travel. We search for the suitcase in Sloane, talk to Chomp Lewis, and then head to Primm to see Tyrone. The supplier will give you the goods for free if you choose Speech (40), Barter (35), or Strength (7) in the dialogue. If you're playing as a girl and have the Black Widow trait, you can pay Tyrone "specially." Melissa will reward you with bottle caps, goodwill, and drugs.

GREAT KHANS

Descendants of a gang of raiders known from previous games in the series. The Khans were wiped out in 2161, and their remnants fled to the Mojave and formed the Great Khans gang in the town of Bitter Springs. After an attack on the town, NCR soldiers and snipers from the 1st Recon Battalion suffered a brutal defeat and were forced to retreat to Red Rock Canyon. Papa Khan was and remains the leader.

Having developed a hatred for the NCR, he allied with Caesar's Legion to fight on their side. Thanks to the Followers of the Apocalypse, the Khans learned to manufacture chemicals and trade them with the Imps. The group's future depends on our actions—we can dissuade them from allying with the slavers and force them to leave the Mojave forever.
