Don't Starve Walkthrough → Biomes (Desert)
Image taken from JONYS.
Desert: This biome is larger than Savannah biomes. It features many rocks, cacti, spiky trees, and tumbleweeds. There's a high chance of finding a Hound Mound or a complex structure with marble statues.
Other biomes Include: cacti, tumbleweeds, Hound Mounds, sharp rocks, grass, spiky trees, and bushes. Other
Biomes include: Voltgoats, buzzards, hounds, and chess pieces.
Loot includes: meat, monster meat, Voltgoat horns, cactus flesh, bone fragments, rocks, cut grass, gears, hound fangs, and anything dropped by tumbleweeds.
Thorn trees are ideal for mining charcoal, as burning them also drops a log.
Tumbleweeds: These only spawn in the desert but can migrate to other biomes. If caught, it will allow itself to be untangled. Each tumbleweed contains three random items. Most often, these are grass and branches, but rare items can also be found, such as gems, small creatures (butterflies, bees, rabbits, spiders), feathers, cobwebs, gears, and recipes.
Cacti: Found in large numbers in deserts. Collecting the pulp causes the character to take 6 points of damage. Cooked cactus pulp is a good sanity restorer. In summer, it begins to bloom, allowing you to craft a flower shirt and prepare flower salad and guacamole.
Volt Goats: Neutral creatures that live in herds only in the desert. Attacking one goat prevents the others from attacking the character. When killed, they drop meat and have a small chance of dropping a Volt Goat Horn. When struck by lightning or morgenstein, it "charges" with electricity and becomes aggressive. In this state, it also drops electric milk (on kill).
Buzzards: Generate in the desert, less often in rocky biomes. Marked on the map. They fly in the air and descend only if there is meat or rotten food on the ground or to catch small creatures. When they begin to eat, you can attack and kill them; otherwise, they fly away. Upon killing, they drop meat, chicken legs, and jet feathers.
