Diablo 1 Walkthrough -> Anvil of Fury
After visiting level 9 of the caves, you can try your luck and receive this quest from Griswold. The blacksmith will explain that his skill is determined not only by his experience, but also by the anvil in his workshop. He will tell you the legend of the great Anvil of Fury, which was imbued with a variety of enchantments and arcane runes.
After wandering through Level 10 of the caves, you'll find a small island in the middle of a lava river. Accessible only by a thin path, the island itself is teeming with monsters defending the Anvil.
Many, if not all, of them have ranged attacks, so be careful when playing a melee character. It's best to play it safe and take them one at a time. Surviving their combined attacks is quite difficult unless you're drinking potions at lightning speed. Once you've defeated all the enemies, take the Anvil and bring it to Griswold. The happy blacksmith will keep his promise and forge you a sword.
