Moose (Goose) | Don't Starve

Moose (Goose)

Moose (Goose) - The Moose, also known as the Goose (in the English version, Moose and Goose, respectively), is one of four giant bosses that can appear on the 2nd-4th day of Spring if more than three basic structures are built too close together (Science Machine, Lightning Rod, Cauldron, etc.). The Moose will flee with the onset of Summer. To freeze the Goose, you need to hit it four times with an Ice Staff, and to put it to sleep, a single accurate shot from a Blowgun is enough. Upon death, you can find Meat x6, Ham x2, and Feathers from 3 to 5.

If the boss appears in your base, you can also spawn its egg by waiting one in-game day, from which five Moose Cubs will run out. They will not grow into another Moose-Goose, but if you attack them, the little ones will cry and the boss will respawn. Also, don't forget that raining frogs can potentially cause the Giant to reappear (editor's note: raining frogs can occur in Maxwell's portal) if the toads start attacking the Lucky Ones. After the first mini-goose is destroyed, all the others will become enraged and use a special attack that directs lightning at the player.

If the character runs far enough, the Moose (Goose) will leap forward and attack with its horns. At this point, you can hit the boss three times before its attack animation begins. If the Moose's head tilts, the player's current weapon will be ejected from the slot. This boss can also destroy structures, but it's not as terrifying as the Deer Cyclops with its area-of-effect attacks.

Behavior in combat

If the player is at a distance, the moose will leap toward them, making a hooting sound. If approached closely, it will swing and attempt to attack the player with its antlers.

Occasionally, it will let out a loud cry, causing the player to drop whatever they're holding.

Its main weakness is that it doesn't attack in an area, making it easy prey for your minions—pigs, hares, and especially spiders (if playing as Webber).

How to break off the wings/horns of an Moose/Goose?

Close combat. The enemy will play a warning animation when it sees the player and becomes aggressive. Next, the Goose will begin to slowly and loudly leap toward the player. After every third hit, it will perform a horns attack, knocking weapons out of hands. Due to the Goose's slow movement and similar attack, it's possible to use a three-hit tactic, as with the Cyclops Deer. Another option: mitigate all the damage from the monster with a football helmet and wooden armor (editor's note: however, it's unknown how many sets of armor and football helmets are required).

Nuclear Boom. One of the fastest ways to defeat the Moose involves using a combination of Sleep Darts/Pan Flute and Old Bell/Gunpowder x29. Reduce the monster's HP to 200 using 29 Gunpowder Charges, and then you can kill the Moose with 2x Explosive Darts to obtain unburned supplies. Alternatively, you can use the Old Bell after 15 Gunpowder Charges have burned out to kill the Moose (Goose) and potentially loot the monster. The easier the kill, the more difficult the preparation. For example, crafting the Bell requires finding and killing a Glommer.

Beefalo. Since the Goose lacks an area-of-effect attack, it can be brought into a Beefalo herd during "mating season" (editor's note: when Beefalo tails glow red) . Since the boss can only attack one target at a time, herd losses will be minimal. Friendly pigs are also good, but they will eat all the meat after defeating the monster.

Important information

When a world is generated, there are conventionally several periods for the Moose (Goose) to appear (up to 9, but in some it doesn't appear).

Specifically: every spring (except for the beginning of Spring or Winter, and also if you restart the game on the 27th day), 50% (or 0%, 25%, 75%, 100%, depending on the configuration of the generated world) of the Goose will emerge on the 0.5-1.5 day.

Eggs spawn 0.25-0.5 days after the boss's arrival, and hatch two days after their appearance. That's all, good luck... :)
