Super Mutants (quests) | Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Super Mutants (quests)

It's not just the major factions that are suffering in the Mojave wasteland—outcasts and mutants are no better off, and where there are problems, there are interesting quests, opportunities to earn money, and new friends.

At the foot of Black Mountain, we'll encounter a friendly mutant who'll warn us of danger and tell us about his problem. A crazy old woman named Tabitha is to blame for this: a radio signal at the mountaintop is driving super mutants and shadows crazy, and they begin to blindly obey her. You could solve the problem crudely by killing everyone in your path with Granny, but I'd take a more subtle approach. Make your way to the top unnoticed (use the Stealth Boy, leave your companions behind), find the radio under the upturned antenna dome, and be rude to Tabitha (Speech 75) – she'll order all mutants to abandon their posts.

Head to Charleston Cave and find a chewed Stealth Boy (the unique "Baby!" hammer is nearby), guarded by invisible night hunters. After the experiment with Lily, calm down Keene (Speech 80), and then tell the doc (Science 90) how to invent a cure without the mutant grandmother's help. You'll receive experience as a reward.

It's best to start a conversation about money, ask Marcus for 2,500 caps (if we take 3,000, we'll lose karma), and drive the mercenaries away with speech—we'll keep the money and the conflict will be resolved.

Humans mutated by the Artificial Evolution Virus. They appeared on the east coast of the United States in 2257. Immune to disease and radiation, they are biologically immortal. In Fallout: New Vegas, two varieties are known: super mutants and shadows. The latter are distinguished by their ability to become invisible, making them especially dangerous opponents at night.

The leader of the mutants is Marcus. He led his brethren to Jacobstown after Tabitha's tyranny began on Black Mountain. In their new home, the clan began raising bighorn sheep and tried to keep their distance from humans, wary of conflict with them. The only human in Jacobstown is Dr. Henry, who is in his lab searching for a cure for the shadows' schizophrenia. If we visit the town, we might be able to help him.
