Honest Hearts. Quests

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Honest Hearts. Quests

Happy Trails Expedition

  1. After installing the Honest Hearts DLC and loading the game, a new radio signal will become available, indicating the DLC's quests. Alternatively, you can simply select a quest from the list in your journal.
  2. Find Jed Masterson in the Northern Passage area. He can be found in a small cave with a narrow canyon leading to the entrance.
  3. The first person you'll meet in the cave is Jed Masterson. You can talk to him about a variety of topics, but you should start with the most important one: the possibility of joining the caravan.
  4. To set out with a caravan, you'll first have to say goodbye to all your companions. You'll also have to unpack your backpack and limit it to no more than 75 pounds of cargo.
  5. Talk to Jed about the weight limit. If your Survival skill is above 50, you can convince him to let you carry 100 pounds instead of 75. A similar result is possible with the "Strong Back" or "Pack Rat" perks.
  6. You can also talk to Ricky. This young man in a blue vault dweller jumpsuit will allow you to discuss a number of different topics and even test your communication skills a few times. If successful, he'll agree to carry 25 pounds of your belongings.
  7. The crate next to Jed is a great place to store any items you can't take with you. However, some items are definitely worth having: several weapons, ammo, stimulants, and good armor.
  8. When you're ready to head to Zion, tell Jed. At that point, you'll see a cutscene—the Honest Hearts intro.
  9. At the end of the video, you will receive a certain amount of money and can proceed to the next task.

Achievement/Reward: When We Remembered Zion – Arrive at Zion for the first time.

Arrive at Zion

  1. You can pick up this quest in Zion. After the introductory cutscene and a short conversation, your caravan will be attacked by members of the savage tribes. Stay away and you'll be fine.
  2. Unfortunately, all your caravan comrades will perish during the attack. However, this will give you an excellent opportunity to loot their cooling corpses for much-needed items.
  3. Once the attackers' fervor begins to wane, you can, if you wish, calmly kill the remaining White Legs. This isn't particularly important, so you can simply continue along the road to the bridge, killing any savages you encounter along the way. Once you cross the river, you'll encounter a very helpful companion, so be careful not to shoot him accidentally.
  4. Incidentally, this very companion looks exactly like a White Legs member from a distance. However, if you accidentally shoot it, it will put an end to the entire story of the expansion.
  5. After crossing the bridge, you'll meet Follows-Chalk on the ridge to the left. Speak with him, and he'll happily join you as a companion. He'll lead you to his tribe's camp, the Dead Horse, located near the river.
  6. Follows-Chalk will show you the way and explain that you're actually lost. Suddenly, along the way, you'll encounter a giant Yao Guai, but it won't pursue you if you continue on your way.
  7. Zion's crevices and cliffs are very confusing and dangerous. Fortunately, the Follow-the-Chalk skill will help you find the right path. Incidentally, if you visit all of Zion's peaks, you'll not only receive a few extra map markers, but also a +3 Perception bonus. All the map markers you earn will make future travels around Zion much easier.
  8. Before entering the camp, inspect the area for traps. After overcoming them, head to Angel Cave and speak with the native, who will direct you to Joshua Graham. Talking to him will complete this quest and open the way for you to proceed.

Roadside Attraction

  1. Agree to help Joshua Graham, and you'll receive this quest. This quest is actually the first in a chain of three missions, and you'll need to complete them all to continue the DLC's story.
  2. The entire quest chain is dedicated to collecting supplies for a certain Daniel from the Sorrows camp, located in the northern part of the park.
  3. Follow the quest marker through the ravine until you come across a wrecked bus. Explore the area until you find a broken compass. Repairing it requires a repair skill of 30 or higher.
  4. This is a very simple task. You simply need to watch for White Legs and monsters as you travel through the park. Carefully explore the area—this will significantly speed up subsequent travel thanks to the markers on the map.

Gone Fishin'

  1. Another task that Joshua Graham from Dead Horse Camp will give you.
  2. This mission will take you to the Zion Fishing Lodge where you will need to find two walkie-talkies.
  3. Be aware that there are several geckos waiting for you inside, so be prepared for a little fight.
  4. Be sure to check the locked cabinet behind the counter—find the key in the bathroom drawer or use a master key. Take both radios and head on to the final mission.

Tourist Trap

  1. This is the last of three quests that Joshua Graham will give you.
  2. The path will lead you to the Zion General Store in search of Li'l Scout Lunchboxes. Inside, defeat the giant Mantises and begin your search.
  3. Luckily, markers on the map indicate the locations of all five rations. Four of them are hidden right inside the store.
  4. The fifth ration is locked in the back room. Picking the lock requires a lockpicking skill of 50 or higher. Alternatively, you can find the keys inside the cash register and the toolbox.
  5. After leaving the store, head along the road to the Zion Ranger Station. Be prepared to fight several monsters inside the station.
  6. In the back room of the base, you'll find spoiled medicine. To restore it, you'll need one of the following: strong alcohol, a Medicine skill of 30 or higher, or duct tape and turpentine. Both of the latter items can be found right here in the Ranger Base.
  7. By the way, you can also take the damaged set. Whether you repair it or take it as is, the quest will be complete.

Deliverer of Sorrows

  1. Complete your courier mission by delivering all the items collected during the previous three missions to Daniel. He can be found in the Narrows in the northern part of the park.
  2. As soon as you enter Sorrows Camp, Waking Cloud will approach you. Talk to her until she allows you to meet Daniel.
  3. Give the collected supplies to Daniel and complete the quest. You'll immediately receive four more, though. During this time, Follows-Chalk will leave you, and Waking Cloud will take his place. Follows-Chalk will remain waiting for you at Dead Horses Camp, so you can still complete his side quests if you speak with him.

Achievement / Reward: Restore our Fortunes – Resupply Daniel and the Sorrows.

  1. Once Waking Cloud joins you, the total number of White Legs in the region will increase.

The Grand Staircase

  1. Now Daniel needs a map, so he'll send you to Morning Glory Cave. Once you leave the Narrows, you'll meet Joshua Graham again. He'll hang around until you talk to Daniel about destroying the White Legs. Don't rush, though.
  2. After leaving the Narrows, you'll also encounter Waking Cloud. She'll even offer to be your guide. And believe me, you couldn't ask for a better option. She'll also have a couple of helpful tips for each of Daniel's quests.
  3. To save time, use the map to teleport to the Zion General Store. From there, Morning Glory Cave is just a stone's throw away.
  4. Inside the cave, Waking Cloud will warn you of the "Father of the Caves." Ignore these superstitions and boldly venture inside.
  5. Find the door marked with cow skulls on both sides. It's locked, and if you lack the skill to open it, check the duffel bag on the ledge to the right—you'll find a key there.
  6. Be careful as soon as you enter this door. Your path will be marked by numerous traps, so you'll need to be very attentive. Your goal is in a guarded area. It's just a duffel bag, but inside you'll find a map of the Grand Staircase Region.
  7. One task completed—three more to go. You might find some other junk inside the cave, but nothing particularly good. The more inquisitive might be able to find some interesting information about the "Father of the Cave" by hacking the local computer.

The Advance Scouts

  1. To complete this simple quest, all you need to do is fight. As you approach the quest marker, Waking Cloud will offer you a choice: either fight your way into the camp or sneak in and steal both battle totems.
  2. If you choose the second option, it's best to use a stealth boy and the Waking Cloud abilities. Once you have the totems, the quest will be complete.
  3. However, it's certainly easier to kill everyone. Each camp contains two or three White Legs natives. Only one of them is armed with a rifle, while the rest fight in close combat.
  4. By the way, don't miss the opportunity to stock up. The White Legs are armed with rare and valuable weapons: 12.7mm submachine guns and fire axes. Don't forget to loot the bodies of defeated enemies.

The Treacherous Road

  1. Another short and simple quest awaits you as you approach the Old Rockville Bridge. Once again, the Waking Cloud will give you some direction.
  2. The easiest way is to disarm the traps. There are only seven of them on the bridge, and each one is marked with a quest marker. It doesn't matter whether you activate them or disarm them.
  3. If you're suddenly thirsty for blood, you can hunt White Legs hunters. Follow the road north from the bridge and you'll find a whole group. By this point, you should already understand what the White Legs are, what weapons they wield, and how to fight them. A few stimpacks are always a good idea.

River Monsters

  1. Once again, you face a choice: brutality or relative peace. Either cross the bridge toward Pine Creek, destroying 5-7 Yao Guai along the way, or head into the caves and plant explosives.
  2. Simply killing the Yao Guai is the quickest option, but fighting multiple creatures at once can be dangerous. Try to deal as much damage as possible from a distance.
  3. If you're not looking for the easy way out, you'll have to head into the caves and plant explosives there. Incidentally, you'll also encounter Yao Guai there, but only three.
  4. Plant the explosives and use the detonator, or simply kill the Yao Guai. Either way, the quest will end.

A Family Affair

  1. Once you team up with Waking Cloud, you'll have the opportunity to ask her about her family. Try to find out as much as you can.
  2. This will unlock the next quest. The first step is talking to Daniel about the conductor's family.
  3. This is also a fairly simple task, but it has a few hidden pitfalls. You can immediately tell the Waking Cloud the information you received from Daniel—that her husband died—or you can lie to your companion.
  4. Lying in this case will earn you some bad karma and result in a bad ending for this storyline. On the other hand, telling the truth won't affect your karma in any way, but the final ending will be good.
  5. Completing this quest will give you some experience and unlock additional DLC endings.

Rite of Passage

  1. Ask Waking Cloud about her wondrous Yao Guai Hide Gloves, and you'll learn that these are only given to those who have passed the Sorrows' initiation rite.
  2. Once the quest starts, head to the cliffs—to White Bird's den. He'll ask you to collect three sacred datura roots. If you open your map, you'll see that the quest markers point to the Narrows area. However, it's much easier to simply buy the necessary roots from Joshua Graham.
  3. Give the roots to the White Bird. Be aware that once you do, you'll have to complete the quest, as you'll enter a strange, dream-like state. Be prepared for this. Don't even try to do anything else!
  4. Talk to White Bird, and he'll brew you a special tea. After drinking it, you'll travel to the Ghost Den, where you'll engage in battle with the Ghost of She, a giant Yao Guai.
  5. To learn more about the Ghost of She, ask White Bird. He'll direct you to Waking Cloud. The guide will be happy to tell you the legend of her tribe.
  6. Be extremely careful on your way to the Ghost Den—several vicious creatures will likely be waiting for you. Head up the road and enter the den. Be aware that before confronting the Ghost of She, you'll have to defeat several regular Yao Guai.
  7. The Ghost of She will appear before you as a flaming Yao Guai. Be warned: when her health reaches minimum, she will multiply into four copies. They have low health but can deal significantly more damage, so try to destroy them as quickly as possible.
  8. Once the job is done, return to White Bird and you will receive a special melee weapon - She's Embrace.

Bighorns of the Eastern Virgin

  1. Ask Follows-Chalk about life in the canyon, and he'll tell you about a baby bighorn sheep that lost its mother.
  2. Head to the quest marker. Be careful, you'll spot several bighorn sheep on the ledges. If you get too close, they'll attack.
  3. One of the additional requirements for this quest is to not kill any bighorn sheep. This is quite challenging, so it's best to avoid your companion's help to better control the situation.
  4. Head into the canyon and follow the trail, avoiding the bighorn sheep.
  5. Along the way, pick up Banana Yucca fruits. You'll need at least three to lure the hatchling.
  6. You'll find a baby bighorn sheep in a dead-end street beyond the last bridge. Using fruit as bait, lure it back to the herd.
  7. To complete the quest, report your progress to Follows-Chalk and receive your reward.

Gathering Storms

  1. Once you've completed all four quests - The Grand Staircase, The Advance Scouts, The Treacherous Road, and River Monsters - you'll be able to begin this quest.

Achievement/Reward: In a Foreign Land – Scouted the Zion Valley for signs of the White Legs.

  1. Talk to Daniel in the Narrows. Here you'll face another choice: leave Zion or fight the White Legs.
  2. Selecting the first option will unlock the quest “Flight from Zion.”
  3. Choosing to fight the White Legs will make the quest “Crush the White Legs” available.
  4. This choice will impact your entire progression through the DLC, so choose carefully. After this, you won't be able to complete any more Zion quests, but you can continue exploring the park.

Escape from Zion - Prisoners of War

  1. Leaving Zion will allow you to complete three additional quests. These must be completed before entering the Pine Creek Tunnel, otherwise they will become unavailable.
  2. You will also lose the ability to fast travel around Zion, but Joshua Graham himself will be your companion for this period.
  3. Head up the hill past the General Store and Ranger Station.
  4. At the Ranger Substation Osprey, captive natives are being held under the watchful eye of several White Legs. Kill the guards and free them. However, if you're skilled enough in stealth, you can simply release the unfortunates.
  5. To open the cage, you'll need a lockpicking skill of 75 or higher. Alternatively, you can simply find the key in the toolbox at the top of the tower. The quest will be completed once you release the prisoners.

Escape from Zion - Retake the Bridge

  1. Continue on to the Pine Creek Bridge. Along the way, you'll encounter a patrol of four or five White Legs. Simply shoot them, and the mission will be complete.

Escape from Zion - Sanctity of the Dead

  1. Another fairly simple quest, but not without its options. When you reach the White Legs' burial site, you'll spot several Sorrows on the riverbank.
  2. Speak with Dancing Flame of the Sorrows tribe. You can ask the natives to help you fight, or stay away if you fear for their lives. However, if you plan to fight the White Legs, any help would be appreciated.
  3. If your communication skill is 75 or higher, you can persuade the Sorrowful to abandon their plan to fight the White Legs. This will immediately complete the quest.

Flight from Zion

  1. Daniel will give you this quest during the quest "Gathering Storms." If you decide to leave Zion, in addition to the previous side quests, you'll also need to complete the following.
  2. As mentioned earlier, you won't be able to fast travel using the map while you're in the middle of this mission, so you'll have to walk to the objective.
  3. As you approach Pine Creek Tunnel, prepare for combat. Your allies will be fighting the White Legs, so you'll need to help. But be careful not to shoot any of your comrades.
  4. Once all the White Legs are killed, Salt-Upon-Wounds will approach you and start a conversation.
  5. There are two ways to end a conversation with Salt-Upon-Wounds - by engaging in combat or by passing a conversation check (if your skill is 75 or higher).
  6. Regardless of how your encounter with Salt-Upon-Wounds ends, speak to Daniel. He'll ask if everyone is here. If you answer yes, you'll lose the opportunity to complete the previous three side quests.
  7. Once you inform Daniel that you're ready to move, he'll give you the detonator. All you have to do is detonate it. This will collapse the Pine Creek tunnel and put an end to the White Legs' aggression.

Quest completed. DLC completed!

Achievement/Reward: May my Hand Forget its Skill – Evacuate Zion.

Crush the White Legs.

  1. When talking to Daniel during the Gathering Storms quest, you'll be able to choose the aggressive option - team up with Joshua Graham and destroy the White Legs.
  2. At the start of the quest, Joshua Graham will become your companion. He's a good fighter, so don't neglect him. First, head to Three Marys and destroy the White Legs camp.
  3. You'll find the entrance to Three Marys south of the Red Rapids Docks. Several White Legs will try to block your path, giving Joshua a chance to prove himself.
  4. Once you've broken into the camp, simply eliminate any natives you encounter. By the way, you'll have allies helping you, so try not to shoot them—they'll be offended and try to retaliate!
  5. When you get close to the caves, the White Legs will cause an explosion and a rockfall, blocking the path to the inner part of the camp. At this point, Graham will abandon you, so you'll have to make do on your own.
  6. All you have to do is continue killing White Legs. Be careful—the natives are especially dangerous in close combat. Once you've cleared all the obstacles, you'll reach the inner camp.
  7. At this point, you'll gain many allies who will make your journey much easier. Once you reach the quest marker, you'll find Salt-Upon-Wounds and Joshua Graham and can choose to speak with Graham or simply kill Salt-Upon-Wounds.
  8. By choosing conversation, you can try to persuade Graham to give up on killing Salt-Upon-Wounds. With a conversation skill of 75 or higher, you can persuade Joshua to allow Salt-Upon-Wounds to die in combat, and with a conversation skill of 90 or higher, you can even resolve the matter peacefully.
  9. If you fail the communication check, then Salt-Upon-Wounds and two more White Legs will attack you.
  10. The choice made at this point only affects the quest's ending, not the reward. After resolving this situation, the quest is complete. The DLC is complete!

Achievement/Reward: O Daughter of Babylon – Crushed the White Legs.

Departing Paradise

  1. After completing the quest "Crush the White Legs" or "Flight from Zion," you'll be able to complete another small side quest. After the final cutscene, you'll find yourself at the Southern Passage.
  2. Check the box opposite - you'll find unique items inside that belonged to characters you met in Zion.
  3. You can also finish exploring Zion if you'd like. When you're done exploring, simply exit the park and you'll be transported back to the Mojave Wasteland.
  4. Don't rush too much - there's plenty of great gear hidden in the vastness of Zion!
