Introduction:
Hello, dear Mojave couriers! In this mini-guide, I'll tell you where to find all 5 upgrades for ED-E, the eyebot, one of the Courier's companions. The upgrades are located in the Rift, which we enter during the Lonesome Road expansion.
Each upgrade provides ED-E or the Courier with a specific bonus or ability: item crafting, passive effects, and more. Let's get started!
Robot #1 - Hopeville Missile Silo Bunker
You'll arrive at this location near the very beginning of the game. There will be two doors at the beginning of the bunker. The robot is in the door on the left, but it will be locked. Go through the door on the right, and you'll find ED-E, who will help you open the door on the left. The robot will be right in front of you. It's extremely difficult to miss. After reaching rank one, you'll be able to receive a daily 25% weapon condition bonus (activated through dialogue with ED-E).
Robot #2 - Hopeville Missile Base Headquarters.
After leaving the bunker where the first robot was, one of the first locations you'll likely find is the Hopeville Missile Base Headquarters. Enter the headquarters and carefully explore the building. Under the table with two rusty terminals will be the second Eyebot. Upon reaching the second rank, ED-E will be able to produce a backpack charge, flamethrower fuel, energy batteries, or micronuclear batteries daily by talking to it.
Robot #3 - Ashton Silo (first level)
After the battle with the Tunnelers on the elevator platform, go through the door and you'll reach the first level of Ashton Silo (there will also be a table with an orange glowing thing). Go through the far right door. After opening it, you'll see a large door and a terminal in the distance. Hacking requires a Science skill of 75. If your skill isn't high enough, you can raise it with the "Programmer's Digest" magazine or some intelligence-boosting chemicals, or come back later. You can also cheat if your conscience allows. The screenshot shows the room behind this very door. Upon reaching rank three, the Courier and ED-E will receive an additional 2 points to their Damage Limit.
Robot #4 - A location near the entrance to the Abadon Cave.
If you've already unlocked the Abadon Cave in the story, you can fast travel to it. Turn around and head outside. After walking forward a bit, you'll see a warhead on the left (if you haven't detonated it yet) and a large pipe. The robot is to the left of the pipe. The robot is near the player's marker. The location on the right on the Area Map is highlighted for reference. Upon reaching rank four, the Courier and ED-E will receive +5 to their laser weapon damage.
Robot #5 - City Sewers near the Municipal Building
You're unlikely to find this location if you're following the storyline, so its location is shown on the map below. Once you reach the indicated location, look for a pipe with a grate that will take you to the sewers. The pipe is located between the 2nd and 3rd floors of the location. Use the Area Map in your Pip-Boy if you run into any complications. The sewers are small, so you should be able to find the robot without difficulty.
If you're having trouble solving the puzzles in "The Lonely Road," our walkthrough will help you overcome any difficulties.
The Silo
To start playing the DLC, you need to find the Canyon Wreckage, to the left of Primm.
The door there allows you to enter the Divide, which will trigger the DLC.
A new quest will appear in your journal called "The Silo." Follow the canyon to the Hopeville Silo Bunker Entrance and enter.
You'll see the mine's control panel. The Programmer's Digest, located nearby, will help you access the control functions.
Activate the terminal and unlock the doors. Go to the utility room where the Eyebot is stored and turn it on.
The robot's name is ED-E, and after a conversation, he'll volunteer to accompany you. In addition to a companion, you'll also gain a new skill. Use ED-E to unlock the door and continue on.
The next task is to restore power to the mine. Use the same control panel and restore power.
Go through the door on the left and continue to the next door, past the destroyed spybot. Proceed up the shaft. At a certain point, ED-E will suddenly play Whitley's recording. Talk to the robot. Enter the door near the computer and destroy the sentry bot or simply ignore it. Proceed through the room and exit through the next door.
Climb the stairs and enter the storage door. You'll find the body of a Marked One on the wall. Go right, watching out for the security robots. Circle the shaft and enter the next room. Use the terminal there to activate the turrets.
Search the room and find the Hopeville Silo Mainframe Controls on the wall. You'll need to find the security codes and upload them to the ED-E.
Head back to the mine and go through the door marked "Security." There you'll find the body of General Martin Retslaf. Use the terminal on his desk (you'll need the security codes). Return to the central processor.
You can now activate the central processor and unlock the outer doors of the mine. You can also force ED-E to access the armory.
Open the mine doors. You'll be attacked afterward. Destroy the security robots and proceed through the door marked "Security." Destroy all the turrets inside.
Continue forward to the military supplies room. You'll find a lot of useful items there. Then, continue further until you find a door marked "You Can Go Home, Courier."
Open the door leading to Hopeville. ED-E will want to talk to you. Completing this conversation will complete the first quest.
The Job
Immediately after completing the quest "The Silo," you'll receive a new quest. Head down the road (beware of enemies).
Your destination is the Marked Men Camp. Using the objective marker, follow it to the building where you'll find a Marked Men with a rocket launcher on the roof. Kill him and climb the stairs.
You'll find a laser detonator near the bed. Take it—it'll come in handy for detonating the nuclear warheads in the Lonely Road area.
Once you've found the detonator, all that's left is to find the warhead itself. Head to the marker on the map – there you'll find a truck carrying the dangerous cargo.
Use the laser detonator and detonate the warhead. I advise you to move to a safe distance – it's a nuclear explosion after all...
Next you need to go through the Lonely Road to the blocked tunnel.
Follow the next marker to the Marked Men Guard Outpost. Continue on.
Further down the road, you'll find another warhead. A laser detonator will help you clear the way. Further down the road, you'll find the Marked Man Base.
Continue moving in this direction. A laser detonator will also help dispose of another nuclear warhead. Continue forward and you'll reach the entrance to the collapsed overpass tunnel ('Collapsed Overpass Tunnel Entrance').
Go inside. ED-E will begin speaking in Whitley's voice again. Your next goal is to get out of the tunnel and reach the High Road.
Follow the tunnel. You'll encounter enemies you'll need to kill. Relatively close, you'll find an exit to the High Road. That's where you want to go.
The Launch
Once you reach the High Road, the previous quest will be completed and a new one will begin - 'The Launch'.
Listen to ED-E. As soon as you get to the road, he'll start broadcasting again. Talk to the robot; he has a lot of interesting information.
Once you've spoken with ED-E, continue down the road. The laser detonator will help you get rid of the warhead blocking your way again. And then another one.
Continue towards the objective marker. Be careful—you might encounter enemies along the way. Eventually, you'll reach a ruined highway interchange.
Continue heading in the same direction. ED-E will start playing Wheatley's recording again. At the end of the road, you'll find an exit on the left. Turn there and head down.
You'll encounter Marked Ones, including snipers. After dealing with them, head to the mission marker.
At the Junction 7 Rest Stop, on the right side of the road, you need to find a Snow Globe.
Continue along the road to the Ashton Silo Control Station. You'll find a control panel there. ED-E will connect to the console, and you'll hear a new recording. This completes the quest.
The Divide/The Tunnelers
After you open the Ashton Silo, a nuclear missile will launch. ED-E will play a new recording, and you'll receive the quest "The Divide."
Open the door to the left of the control panel. Call the elevator and wait out the explosion, then head to the missile silo.
When you reach the bottom, enter the door ahead. You need to activate the Ashton Missile Silo elevator and use it to reach the Divide.
Descend until you reach the Sunstone Tower. Climb up to the roof. At the top of the stairs, you'll find a door leading to the Rift. Enter.
Another transmission from ED-E awaits you. Talk to him. Then use the ramp and ladder to reach the ground. Head to the mission marker.
Detonate the warheads to clear the way. Once you reach the objective marker, you'll receive another quest: 'The Tunnelers.'
Using the map as your guide, you'll find the Cave of the Abaddon. Proceed through it, killing any tunnelers you encounter along the way. Through the underground structures, you'll reach the Buried Buildings.
Once you pass through, you'll find yourself in the Divide. The first thing you'll encounter is another ED-E transmission. This will be your final communication session—Ulysses will take control, leaving you without a companion. Incidentally, this will also be the finale of the quest "The Tunnelers."
Descend to the ground. Be careful—Deathclaws dwell here. Use another warhead to blast your way through the ruins.
There are several warheads in this area that you can detonate. Follow the path down the cliffs, blasting your way through them, until you reach the entrance to Ulysses' Temple. Enter and begin the next mission, "The Courier."
The Courier
To begin a new quest, head through the technical rooms to the Temple Elevator. Keep in mind that if you use it, you won't be able to return until you complete the DLC's main quest.
By the way, before taking the elevator up, you can find ED-E. If you don't, you'll get the "Lonesome Road" perk.
After taking the elevator up, you'll find yourself in a room with several warheads. Move forward until Ulysses speaks to you. After you've had your fill of conversation, kill him.
Go down the stairs and you'll reach the Eyebot Control Station. Here, you can disable all the Eyebots or reconfigure the targeting system (requires Science 100). Another control station is on the opposite side.
Once Ulysses is dead, just kill the rest of the enemies.
Once everyone is dead, the "Courier" quest will be completed.
Good Ending
To complete this mission, you'll need to find ED-E. After defeating Ulysses, approach the control panel in the center of the room.
You'll have several options, but you must choose 'Attempt to stop missile launch'.
In the missile launch center, use ED-E to access the controls.
ED-E will show you a recording of Whitley. This celebratory moment concludes the DLC.
*Warning! If you choose any other option, you will immediately receive the side quest 'Apocalypse'.
Bad Ending
This ending occurs if you choose any option other than 'Attempt to stop missile launch'. You will also receive another mini-quest, 'The Apocalypse'. Run to the exit and watch the cutscene that concludes the DLC.
DLC completed. Congratulations!
