Rifles (Part 2)

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Rifles (Part 2)

The Battle Rifle is a medium-power semiautomatic rifle with a magazine holding 20 rounds of 5.56mm caliber. Its appearance is reminiscent of the famous M16, which was used during the Vietnam War. The rifle's wooden frame is simple in design, but its build quality and reliability have earned it recognition throughout the Mojave and beyond, ensuring its widespread use. The Battle Rifle is highly revered by the NCR, serving as standard issue for the rank-and-file soldier.

Requirements: Weapon: 25 Strength: 2. ID: 000e9c3b

Hunting Rifle - This rifle resembles its counterpart from Fallout 3 and is strikingly different from its counterpart in Fallout 1 and 2. Despite its rather flimsy and worn appearance, the front sight is coated with tritium, which aids aiming in low light. After installing modifications, the hunting rifle can be used in most situations involving long- or medium-range combat. It won't completely replace a sniper rifle, but it will be a valuable aid in stealthy enemy elimination. This model is not as common among the inhabitants of the Mojave as the rifle from Fallout 3.

Requirements: Weapon: 50 Strength: 6. ID: 00004333

"Machine" - No matter how you obtain this rifle, it will be in pristine condition. It holds eight .308 rounds. Its rate of fire is quite high, and its damage is commensurate. You'll just have to get used to aiming in real time.

Facts: Two other modifications of this rifle—a bayonet knife and a red dot sight—were developed and their properties were specified, but neither made it into the final version of the game.

Requirements: Weapon: 75 Strength: 6. ID: 000f062b

Cowboy Rifle - This already powerful weapon has a ton of advantages: compatibility with the Cowboy perk, a fairly high rate of fire, and three modification options. Add to this the rifle's widespread use throughout the Mojave, and you can draw a conclusion even without trying it in combat: until the mid-game (and possibly beyond), you'll have a reliable gun with easily refillable ammunition and decent damage.

Requirements: Weapon: 25 Strength: 4. ID: 0008f21a

Long Carbine - Unlike the standard cowboy rifles, this model is equipped with a scope. Judging by the magazine capacity, it's already been modified. The reload speed has also been noticeably reduced.

Facts: If one of the objectives of the "Headhunting" quest, which involves assassinating Chief-Chief, is completed, First Recon will be redeployed to Camp Forlorn Hope. Corporal Sterling will also be deployed.

Requirements: Weapon: 25 Strength: 5. ID: 000f56f5

Pathfinder Carbine - High accuracy, a rapid fire rate, and a large magazine capacity are the hallmarks of this well-built carbine. Furthermore, this weapon is renowned for its reliability and dependability. The only obvious drawback is the long reload time.

Facts: Models and specifications were developed for two more modifications of this carbine—a laminated stock and an improved bolt—but neither made it into the final version of the game.

Requirements: Weapon: 75 Strength: 5. ID: 000cd539

Bear Rifle - It's worth noting that, thanks to their exceptional damage per bullet, hollow-point rounds are effective even against medium-armored targets. In fact, hollow-point rounds are more effective than standard rounds against any enemy with a damage rating below 14 (or below 18 with the "Cowboy" perk).

Facts: If you modify a Bear Rifle, repairing it will be somewhat more complicated. Firstly, it can only be repaired up to 50% durability, and secondly, attempting to repair a gun with higher durability will only result in damage (again, up to 50% durability; if the quality drops below this level, repairs will be effective). You'll need to contact a repair specialist. Apparently, the bug is related to the properties of the forged receiver.

Requirements: Weapon: 100 Strength: 6. ID: 00121148
