Rifles (Part 1)

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Rifles (Part 1)

The Air Rifle is a lever-action air rifle from the 1950s. It operates similarly to the lever-action shotgun and the Backwater rifle from Fallout 3. It is the weakest weapon in the game.

Requirements: Strength: 1. ID: 000c0327

The exclusive "Child of Abilene" air rifle - At first glance, the "Child of Abilene" doesn't look much different from a standard air rifle: the same appearance, similar damage. But this unusual weapon has a couple of undeniable advantages: increased critical hit chance (1.5 vs. 1) and a massive critical damage bonus (the highest among all rifles) of 70. Combined with the "Critical Damage" perk, the damage dealt in this case reaches 109.

Requirements: Strength: 1. ID: 0015ff5d

Carbine - This fast-firing, compact carbine is known for its rather large bullet spread, making it less effective at long ranges. Armor-piercing rounds for the carbine are readily available at Gunsmiths, making this rifle a candidate for a primary weapon against armored opponents.

Requirements: Weapon: 75 Strength: 3. ID: 0008f21e

The Varmint Rifle is a small-bore rifle, said to be used for hunting animals and insect pests. This explains its low strength and skill requirements. It uses 5.56mm ammunition. Its modest requirements and the widespread availability of ammunition are perhaps the only advantages of this rifle.

Requirements: Strength: 3. ID: 0007ea24

Rat Slayer - Thanks to its increased critical hit chance and pre-installed modifications, the Rat Slayer can serve as a sniper rifle until you acquire one. The suppressor is a great addition, allowing you to play the role of a silent sniper and deal massive damage with critical hits while stealthed. The Rat Slayer's longevity is also ensured by its widespread use as a standard varmint rifle, simplifying repairs and maintenance. The only drawback worth mentioning is the increased AP cost per shot – 45 versus 22 for the standard rifle.

Facts: According to the notches on the buttstock, this rifle has laid 69 rat souls to rest.

Requirements: Strength: 3. ID: 000e5b17

The Marksman's Carbine is a 20-round semiautomatic rifle of average utility. The rifle comes with an optical sight similar in design to those mounted on standard and large-caliber sniper rifles.

Requirements: Weapon: 100 Strength: 4. ID: 00106fea

"All-American" - This classified model of the rifleman's carbine differs from its predecessor in its increased damage, an extended magazine (now holding 24 rounds), a higher-magnification optical sight, and the presence of a "woodland" camouflage pattern. A distinctive plaque denoting the rifle's affiliation with the 82nd All-American Airborne Division is located on the side.

Requirements: Weapon: 100 Strength: 4. ID: 00106feb
