Novac (Part 1)

Fallout: New Vegas Walkthrough -> Novac (Part 1)

In Novak, go to the large building of the Dino Dee-Lite Motel. You'll find Jenny Mae Crawford there and talk to her about the man who shot you. She'll recommend talking to the locals; maybe someone knows something. Basically, finding the crazy No-bakr Tunan and talking to him is enough. He's wandering around somewhere in town.

Then head to the huge dinosaur statue at the entrance to the motel. Open the chain-link gate and head left, to the left side of the dinosaur. Here you'll find the entrance to a small shop and an observation room, which is located in the dinosaur's head. In the observation room, talk to Manny Vargas; he'll agree to tell you about the people who attacked you in exchange for your help. You'll receive the quest "Come Fly With Me." This quest is optional; information about the man in the suit can be found by checking the terminal on the first floor of the Novak Motel, in Manny's room. But I still recommend completing this quest. It's certainly more difficult than simply checking the terminal, but trust me, it's much more interesting. You can get the information from the terminal first and then complete the quest later. Let's take a closer look at completing the quest.

Take Boone as a partner

Manny can also be persuaded simply by speaking. He can also tell you about another sniper, Boone, who's on night duty.

Boone can become our companion. To do so, you'll need to agree to help him find those responsible for his wife's kidnapping. We ask the locals about the story of Boone's wife, and learn from Nelay about strange people visiting the Dinolight lobby. We head there, crack the floor safe, and retrieve a copy of the purchase agreement for Boone's wife to the Legion. The agreement implies that Old Lady Crawford is involved.

We wake her up and ask her to go to the dinosaur under the pretext of looking at something. We stand next to her and put on the red beret (it's left over after the mission, and in my opinion, one of the best headwear, +5% critical chance, +1 VSP), which we received from the sniper, thus giving the signal. We return to the sniper and report our decision. Now you can persuade him to go with you.

REPCONN

Talk to Manny, he'll tell you about the REPCONN Test Facility west of Novak. Ghauls led by Jason Bright have taken over the factory, preventing the townspeople from robbing it. Manny himself can't leave his post to deal with them, as doing so could trigger an attack by Caesar's Legion, which is not something anyone wants. Therefore, it's up to you to get rid of the factory's unwanted inhabitants.

After receiving the mission, head to the marker west of Novak. Along the way, you'll see an abandoned outpost, encounter some ghouls who aren't quite sane, and stumble upon the corpses of Nightkins—mutants with grayish-blue skin. Search the area carefully; there are numerous boxes, crates, and shelves containing some very useful items, including weapons. Pick up everything; I hope you've freed up some space in your bags. Everything will come in handy later. Among the trophies is a Cowboy Repeater; don't miss such a powerful weapon.

Once you've collected all the trophies, move on until you reach the huge factory building. In front of the factory, near the rocket statue, you'll be attacked by several Feral Ghouls. You can even kill them with a pistol. Using VATS, you'll encounter a couple more enemies right at the entrance – Wandering Ghouls. They're slightly more powerfully equipped and have more health, so aiming is key. If you look around, you'll find some more ammunition, but nothing particularly noteworthy. Now you can go inside.

Inside, a dialogue with a ghoul will immediately begin through a speaker on the wall. He'll tell you to reach a corner room containing a metal staircase. You'll need to climb this staircase. I recommend exploring the factory first; the staircase isn't going anywhere.

Immediately after the conversation ends, prepare to deal with the two Feral Ghouls that will attack you. After dispatching them, check the restrooms. You'll find lockpicks, Stimpaks, and a Super Stimpak in the lockers.

Proceed through the building, searching every room, thoroughly examining everything, and collecting everything you can. Don't relax; the Ghouls aren't going anywhere. In the hallways, you'll see glowing piles of ash; you'll find a variety of useful and less useful items in them. After searching the entire building, head to the room with the staircase. It's in the far corner of the building. Climb the staircase and go through the door near the ceiling. There you'll meet the same ghoul you spoke to when you entered the building – Chris Haversam. He's not actually a ghoul, but a human, but he prefers to think of himself as one. He'll lead you to the leader, Jason Bright. Regular ghouls won't talk to you.

Jason will tell you about demons that attacked the ghouls when they went to the basement to pray to their god. Since then, these demons have taken over the basement. These demons were Nightkin; you can't see them directly, but you can determine their location by vibrations in the air where they are. Jason will ask for your help in clearing the basement.
