Sniper rifle and scope

Terraria Wiki → Sniper rifle and scope

The Sniper Rifle is a firearm added in version 1.2. It drops exclusively from the Skeleton Sniper in the Hardmode dungeon with a 7.64% drop rate (1 in 13) as of version 1.2.0.2. It has very high base damage and an increased critical hit chance (29%), but a very low rate of fire. Right-clicking zooms the camera in, allowing for long-range shooting.

Interesting Facts

There is a bug that allows you to shoot through vertical walls, provided you are close to the wall and are not using a high-velocity bullet (shooting at a special angle).

  • A bullet fired from a sniper rifle is very fast, but it is not a high-velocity bullet.
  • It is the second weapon in terms of one-time damage after the money gun.
  • If you use it with a sniper scope you can see even further.

Solving the problem of receiving

If you don't have the "right" biome in your dungeon, create a new world and try your luck there! It's also recommended to drink a battle potion to increase the chance of snipers appearing.

The Sniper Scope is an accessory added in version 1.2.1.2. It functions similarly to a scope, meaning it will apply the zoom effect as with a sniper rifle, but it also increases critical hit chance and ranged damage by 10%. It works with weapons that use bullets as ammunition, including the sniper rifle itself.

Notes

If you're a marksman and using a sniper scope, keep in mind that the health-regenerating items (Campfire and Heart Lamp) will stop working if they move off the screen while you're aiming down the sights, meaning they're no longer visible. Therefore, it's best to either place them close to your character or position them on either side, at a distance.

The Recon Scope is an accessory added in version 1.4.0.1. It combines the properties of a sniper scope (damage and critical hit chance do not stack) and a rotten remnant. It's useful for the marksman class in multiplayer if a warrior is involved in the battle. In this case, the marksman's priority to enemies is reduced even more.
