Dragonfly | Don't Starve

Dragonfly

The Dragonfly is one of four giant bosses. It appears in summer. Upon death, it drops Scales and 8 Meat. If attacked, the boss will begin an offensive attack with an area-of-effect "ring of fire," causing any normal or endothermic fires to burn at full power, along with mobs. The Dragonfly also attacks unavoidable unless you have at least 75% movement speed.

During its offensive phase, the boss takes on a fiery hue, damaging everything nearby and setting objects on fire. If left alone for a while, the Dragonfly will calm down and revert to its normal form. Damaging it with a ranged attack will provoke the Dragonfly, dealing area-of-effect damage that slows it down, allowing you to escape.

How to kill her?

The Dragon Fly remains neutral unless attacked or attacked. It will spit lava at various objects, turning them to ash and consuming the ash. When the Dragon Fly consumes 20 or more Ash, it will go into hibernation. If you get too close during an attack, the monster will enter "heavy mode," setting everything around it on fire. During rain, this mode is less effective and will freeze the Dragon Fly, returning it to its normal state. The Frost Staff and Old Bell are also unusable due to the Dragon Fly's ability to quickly defrost. When the player is within range, the boss attacks normally. The Dragon Fly then slams the ground three times, creating a ring of fire that affects everyone (igniting everything with fire and dealing area-of-effect damage during the attack).

Recommended equipment starts with 1 Tentacle Club, 2 Football Helmets, and 2 Wooden Armor. Area-of-effect damage can instantly kill some characters. A hit-and-run tactic involves hitting the fly twice for its area-of-effect attack and having a Thermal Stone in your inventory to prevent overheating.

The easiest way to kill any boss in Daunt Starv is with Sleep Darts/Pan Flute and Old Bell/Gunpowder. The Dragon requires a stack of 138, which not only instantly kills the mob but also, due to its fire immunity, won't set any dropped loot on fire. The next way to kill the Dragonfly is to throw 20 Ash, which it will immediately fly to and eat. This will put it to sleep, allowing you to place 138 Gunpowder nearby. The Old Bell is only useful if you want to weaken the boss. Place 3-4 Gunpowder in a pile and ring the bell as the Dragonfly approaches, very precisely, so that your large foot steps on it.

Treants and monsters with high HP can significantly damage the Dragon Fly. Avoid leading it to a Beefalo herd or a Pig Village, as the Fly will quickly kill everyone in the area in 1-2 attacks.

If the two strategies above fail, try leading the boss to the Swamp (or run to the swamp when it activates attack mode). Merms move quickly, and the tentacles will deal damage first (before they are hit by an area-of-effect attack). Although the Fly can kill swamp creatures, it will lose a significant amount of health in the process. Each time it kills any hostile monster, the mob enters a calm period, during which it can easily escape.

Important information

The Dragonfly doesn't spawn or despawn during the summer. Instead, it resides in a special lava spot in the Desert. During combat, it will stop for 10 seconds if it takes more than 1250 damage in 5 seconds. While stunned, damaging the fly for an additional 2500 damage will cause it to drop loot. This can be easily achieved by placing two piles of gunpowder (one with 7 and the other with 13) close together, freezing it, and then placing the gunpowder on it and igniting it. After this, the fly will be unable to be stunned again for 60 seconds, and stopping it in place will cost an additional 250 damage. It won't drop any more items, but this will still force it to recover, allowing you to repeat the process and get the desired loot again.

During combat with the player, the Dragon Fly, upon reaching 80%, 50%, or 20% health, will retreat to lava pools and spawn lava larvae to attack. If a larva is killed, the boss will become enraged again and engage in combat. The Fly's freeze threshold is also doubled, and quadrupled during its "special attack." If you leave it in a location and run away, it will return after 1 day. If you kill it, it will reappear after 20 days.
