Bearger
The Bearger is an autumn boss giant added in the Reign of Giants DLC. When it arrives, it begins devouring everything in its vicinity and throwing items out of chests and refrigerators. It especially loves beehives and can only be satisfied by eating 10 Honey, after which it goes to sleep. However, given the choice of eating honey or fighting the player, it will choose the latter. The Bearger attacks all nearby mobs, eating any food on the floor, and also destroying trees in its path. When there is no food left in the base, the Bearger will slowly follow the player. The monster's range is limited, but if you run close, you can snatch it. Picking up food that the Bearger wants to eat will greatly upset it, causing a corresponding sound. Taking the food a second time will make it even more upset. The third time, the Bearger will become enraged and attack. The monster has two distinct melee attacks. It slams the ground with its front paws, creating a shockwave that destroys structures, knocks down trees, and uproots plants over a long distance. A dangerous beast. The second attack occurs when the monster rears up on its hind legs and slams its front paws three times, and the ground once. The badger will pursue a target fleeing the battlefield, breaking trees and structures, and upon catching up, it will slam the ground.
Upon death, the bear drops 8 meat and 1 insulated fur, which is used to craft the Bear Hibernation Vest and Thermal Backpack.
How to kill him?
Behavior. At close range, the boss uses a paw attack that knocks weapons out of their slots. The range and damage are the same as the monster's regular attack. Once the Badger Bear has swiped its paws three times, the fourth strike hits the ground, knocking weapons out of the character's hands and destroying nearby objects. The area-of-effect attack has the same range as regular arm swings.
Close combat. You have time to hit the Badger 2-3 times and then run away, waiting for it to swipes its paws three times and hit the ground. It is recommended, at the very least, to wear wooden armor and a football helmet.
By the way:
- Your weapon will actually fly into the ocean if it knocks it out of your hands.
- Close combat can significantly reduce your sanity in a few minutes, which will trigger an attack from Dark Creatures, especially during the evening or night.
- When a sleeping Burger wakes up, it will yawn and all nearby mobs and players will fall asleep (DST).
Nuclear Boom. One of the fastest ways to deal with a Badger Bear is to combine Sleep Darts/Pan Flute with Old Bell/Gunpowder. Using Gunpowder, you can reduce the Burger's health to 200 and then finish it off with whatever you want, for example, two Explosive Darts, without setting it on fire. In fact, a Burger isn't just valuable fur, but also... eight whole chunks of meat! :) The Old Bell should be used in the other hand after detonating a stack of 30 Gunpowder Charges. However, it's not easy to collect all the weapons needed for the detonation. For example, Old Bell and Glommer, or a Pan Flute with darts. But if there's no other option, be prepared in advance.
Poisoning. The method involves feeding the Bear raw mushrooms while listening to the song "Melting Ice," just kidding... The method is that, like other bosses, the Burger eats everything in sight, including health-reducing food, Red Mushrooms, and monster meat. So, you can feed him poisoned food and potentially weaken him, or even kill him. Another question is where to get such a quantity of mushrooms, if not from the group of the same name, and monster meat?
You can bring it to the swamp to the Merms, who will eagerly join the fight along with tentacles that drop monster meat. Each unit of such meat reduces health by 20, plus damage from the swamp undead, and the Badger is ready.
By the way:
- You don't have to wear armor, but it is recommended.
- The boss will not attack Spider lairs. This means that after the fight, spiders will remain and eat all the meat. So it's better to kill him away from scavengers.
Advantages of this method:
- No need to prepare.
"We can stop the process and postpone the killing for more important matters. For example, leave the Bear in the swamp and return to the rest base, then check on the oaf in the morning. (If the base is nearby.)
Other things."One. Another simple way to deal with this is to lead the Badger into the forest and have him fell trees until the Ents appear. Two. If you use a fire staff or darts on the monster, it will start running around in circles, forgetting about you. Therefore, setting the beast on fire several times is a good way to inflict damage with minimal risk.
Below is a table of the number of hits required from different weapons to completely destroy the Badger Bear, ignoring the effects of weather conditions:
Weapon Number of hits
- Fishing rod, landing net 1410
- Lucy's Axe 442
- Shovel, Pitchfork, Hammer, Willow Lighter, Cane, Umbrella 354
- Axe, Pickaxe, Deluxe Axe, Deluxe Pickaxe, Boomerang 222
- Pickaxe 198
- Spear 178
- Mouse bat 144
- Meat bat 102-204
- Morgenstein 84-140
- Slime (gunpowder) 120
- Spiked oak 102
- Fang Trap 100
- Shadow Sword 90
- Explosive Dart, Fire Dart, Fire Staff 60
- Powder 30
- Old bell 6
Important information
The Burger will no longer disappear and attack if you approach it. Instead, it will hibernate through winter and spring, dealing less damage but not dropping any insulated fur. In summer and fall, it behaves as usual and takes normal damage, sometimes dropping its fur. Additionally, its area-of-effect attack has a 20% chance of dropping up to 3 pieces of insulated fur. If you attack the Badger while it's sleeping, it will yawn. Then, all living creatures around it will yawn too and fall into hibernation. The monster will then attack whoever woke it up. Good luck, and don't starve!
