Description:
The house presented below is extremely compact and allows for basic NPCs to be housed without expending significant resources or time on construction. It can be expanded to hold up to 20 rooms, which is necessary to house all possible NPCs.
(Including Santa, 21 rooms are required.)
It is recommended to build the house at a low elevation, off the ground. This will allow for the necessary workbenches and storage underneath the house.
To build one room, you will need:
- 5 blocks for the floor
- 25 platforms
- 10 walls
- One torch
- Workbench
- Chair
Construction
Place all the above materials as follows:

Now you have a room ready for NPCs.
You can spice up the design by adding torches, walls, etc., but that would defeat the purpose of such a house. A finished design for 6 starting NPCs is shown below.

Place all necessary workbenches and chests under the house. To install a bed and still keep the room habitable, place a workbench on a shelf under the ceiling. This will magically make the room attractive to NPCs, and they will happily move in.
