Chests and storage

Terraria Wiki → Chests and storage

Inexperienced players often neglect their inventory, preferring to fill it up (when they could have easily thrown away all the junk on the fly) and return home without finishing their adventure. Experienced players, on the other hand, manage their inventory wisely and maximize their loot. In this guide, we'll cover

all types of storage, such as:

  • Box
  • Piggy bank
  • Safe
  • Forge of the Defender
  • Dresser
  • Barrel
  • Trash can

As well as inventory hygiene and common mistakes new players make.

Important: the Piggy Bank, Safe, and Defender's Forge belong to a specific character on any map, meaning that when you enter another world, you'll see your items in the Piggy Bank, Safe, and Forge!  Enjoy!

Chest:

The game offers a huge variety of places to stash the junk you've accumulated during your daring adventures in the world of Terraria. Some have been in the game since its release, while others appeared just yesterday, and with each update, their number is growing. But don't be afraid to figure it out. So, let's get started.

A chest  is an object in which you can store items. It contains up to 40 storage slots. A chest cannot be broken until you empty it of all your items. Chests are also divided into  natural  and craftable  . They

differ only in appearance and how they are obtained.

The Piggy Bank and the Money Trough

are a very important item in the game  .  The Piggy Bank  is a portable  chest  , and if you place multiple Piggy Banks, they will share the same inventory. It has a 1x2 size. Another big advantage of the Piggy Bank is that you can put money in it (oh well, really), and your money will be spent first from your inventory, and then from the Piggy Bank.

To obtain  a Piggy Bank, you need to purchase it from  a vendor  for (1) gold coin. A  more advanced

Money

Trough is also an alternative to  the Piggy Bank . It has exactly the same properties, but it can fly (through blocks as well), unlike  the Piggy Bank , which can only be placed on platforms. It can be obtained during a Blood Moon from two monsters (  or ). The drop rate is 1 in 200 (normal) or 1 in 100 (expert). Safe: The Safe   is also a useful item; keeping it together with the Piggy Bank will increase your inventory space by 80. It must be placed on a flat surface. It has a 2x2 shape. To obtain  the Safe  , you need to purchase it from   (20) gold coins. (Only after defeating Skeletron) Defender's Forge: The Defender's Forge   is a new storage item added in update 1.3.4. It has the same properties as other storage items. It has a 3x4 shape, making it awkward to handle. It can be obtained by purchasing it from   [Item 75].  Chest of Drawers. The Chest of Drawers is a decorative piece of furniture added in update 1.0.6. It is used to change clothes (only works when armor is not equipped). Later, in version 1.3.0.1, the chest of drawers acquired the properties   of a chest. Its 3x2 shape makes it inferior to a chest, although it is easier to craft.

A barrel is a storage item similar to a chest, but its recipe is simpler, although it requires   a sawmill, unlike  a chest, which requires  a workbench. It has the same size as a 2x2 chest.

The Trash Can is a storage area for items. It's shaped like a 2x2 chest. Oddly enough, nothing disappears from the Trash Can, unlike a special inventory slot. To quickly discard an item, hold down SHIFT and click on the item (this doesn't work on selected items). The Trash Can will never replace a regular chest or barrel because crafting it is too difficult.

Chest placement

is a crucial component of gameplay. Living in a constant state of disarray means wasting time searching for items when you could be exploring mines, fighting bosses, and so on.

Another important aspect is the distance between the player and the chests. Chests that are used most often should be closer to the player (for example, chests containing MATERIALS, ORE, INGOTS, and BLOCKS), while those used less frequently (for example, QUEST FISH or DECORATIONS) should be further away. Also, when passing already prepared chests, clicking on   them will automatically distribute items among them, stacking the ones already there.

A mana crystal is a consumable, while a star and a piece of meat are materials.

Inventory hygiene and common mistakes.

And now we come to the most important thing - INVENTORY MANAGEMENT RULES. Everything will be as it happens. Rules: 1. Always! Carry  a piggy bank or safe

with you! Otherwise, you'll simply have to return home without fully exploring the cave, in case there were treasures there. 2. Throw away trash! (Only if there is no URGENT need). 3. Highlight items in your inventory ALWAYS! This will keep them safe and prevent them from accidentally ending up in a chest or in the trash slot.

4. Don't carry items that are no longer relevant! For example: I blew up a meteorite, made a meteorite set, and now I'm walking around with a blaster, and it's time to put the mini-shark in the chest!
